Patent number: 5599608Abstract: A method for molding a plastic part comprises preforming a film laminate and insert molding a plastic substrate against the film laminate. According to one embodiment, the film laminate is preformed with re-entrant edge portions. The insert molding step involves positioning the film laminate in a mold cavity, closing the mold and injecting molten resin into the mold cavity against the film laminate. The force of the closing of the mold and the injection of the resin causes the re-entrant edge portions to curl up under the solidifying resin to ensure complete coverage of the longitudinal edges of the plastic substrate by the film laminate. According to another embodiment, a stencil of an image is made in the film laminate prior to the insert molding. The resin injected into the mold flows into the stencil so that the image is visible against the surrounding surface of the film laminate.Type: GrantFiled: July 24, 1995Date of Patent: February 4, 1997Assignee: Green Tokai Co., Ltd.Inventors: Hiroaki Yamamoto, William Hardgrove

Patent number: 5591510Abstract: The invention is directed to a layered fabric material that is breathable and has resistance to fluid penetration. The fabric has a lightweight, breathable outer layer and a layer of non-woven material. The non-woven material is breathable and fluid resistant. The fabric also includes a thermoplastic film having a plurality of perforations. The perforations form capillaries that extend from a surface of said film. The capillaries are disposed at an angle from about 5.degree. to about 60.degree. with respect to the surface of said film. The capillaries formed by the perforations allow the film layer to be breathable while resisting direct flow of liquid through the film.Type: GrantFiled: June 14, 1994Date of Patent: January 7, 1997Assignee: Tredegar Industries, Inc.Inventors: Stephen G. Patent number: 5476705Abstract: A corner structure of a resinous molded part includes a base portion and a pair of lever portions which are formed integrally with the base portion. The molded part is provided with cut-outs which are arranged at corners where the base portion intersects the lever portions. A thickness of a portion outside the recess is established to be larger than a thickness of another portion inside the cut-out. With the establishment of the thickness, the amount of the inward inclination of the lever portions derived from the differential shrinkage can be reduced since they are pulled outwardly due to the increased thickness of the outside portion, when the part is cooled.Type: GrantFiled: June 21, 1994Date of Patent: December 19, 1995Assignee: Yazaki CorporationInventors: Susumu Mizuse, Naoto Taguchi

Patent number: 5281460Abstract: A camouflage covering is provided which includes an underlying layer of lightweight porous material such as a nylon mesh. Elongated strips are attached at one of their ends to the underlying layer of material. The strips have various emissivity values which are arranged in patterns which avoid having strips of the same emissivity value adjacent one another. The strips tend to disrupt both the shape and the brightness of an underlying object's infrared emission. Also, the strips tend to absorb the radiation being emitted from the underlying object. Patent number: 5236752Abstract: The web is a substantially flat laminate in the form of a base sheet having a permanent upper surface of plastic material defining a base color, which may optionally be clear. A final graphics layer covers the base sheet and has an upper surface colored differently from the base color and a lower surface adhering to the upper surface of the base. The peel values of the upper and lower surfaces of the layer relative to each other and to the upper surface of the base are such that the cut graphic pattern in the layer remains secured to the base while the other portions of the layer may readily be peeled from the base without excessively adhering to and thereby removing the graphic pattern from the base. Preferably, two or three differently colored layers are laminated with the base, to permit the making of a sign having two or three different colors in addition to the colored (or clear) base.Type: GrantFiled: September 18, 1991Date of Patent: August 17, 1993Inventor: Donald R. Patent number: 5200251Abstract: A filament wound composite structure, its tooling and method of manufacture. The isogrid filament wound composite structure is formed having at least one or more pseudo-isotropic laminate zones in its joint regions. This structure is realized through the use of specialized tooling. The ribs of the isogrid filament wound composite structure are discontinued by tapering them out into a thin skin. This is accomplished by gradually widening the grooves in the mandrel while simultaneously decreasing the depth of the grooves. This gradual change in the tooling redistributes the material in the ribs into a thin skin. The fibers that are redistributed into this thin layer, coupled with the skin wound over the top of the ribs, provide the necessary reinforcement in the joints.Type: GrantFiled: June 20, 1991Date of Patent: April 6, 1993Assignee: General Dynamics Corporation, Space Systems DivisionInventor: Christopher B. Patent number: 4522860Abstract: A material for use as a core in panels or structural members includes a longitudinal and transverse axis which lie in a common plane. The material includes alternating first and second strips that are interconnected at spaced intervals along the longitudinal axis by lands lying in the common plane. Each of the first strips is formed to have portions lying to one side of the common plane and each of the second strips has portions lying to the other side of the common plane. The interconnected lands define webs extending along the transverse axis to provide inherent stiffness to the material.Type: GrantFiled: January 10, 1983Date of Patent: June 11, 1985Assignee: Metalcore LimitedInventors: John T. Patent number: RE33353Abstract: A pressure sensitive adhesive composite with a delivery system having particular benefit in application of very thin backings such as high moisture vapor permeable films widely used as medical dressings is disclosed. The composite has a backing coated with adhesive on at least a portion of the backing and liner over the adhesive. At least one edge of the backing is a delivery strip which is separable from the remainder of the backing. The liner is securely adhered to the delivery strip and releaseably adhered to the remainder of the adhesive coated backing. The bond between the a liner and the delivery strip is strong enough that the delivery strip will separate from the remainder of the backing before it will separate from the liner.Type: GrantFiled: May 31, 1989Date of Patent: September 25, 1990Assignee: Minnesota Mining and Manufacturing CompanyInventor: Steven B. Patent number: H1575Abstract: An improved topsheet for use in absorbent articles such as sanitary pads. The topsheet comprises a three-dimensional hydrophilic formed film having a plurality of openings leading from a surface of the topsheet to an absorbent core. The topsheet presents a more comfortable and dryer surface which contacts the wearer and a clean, dry appearance to the wearer. The clean, dry appearance is obtained by employing an opacifying agent in the film. The openings comprise tapered capillaries having a base in the surface plane of the topsheet and an apex remote from the surface plane of the topsheet. Each apex is in intimate contact with the absorbent core. In a preferred arrangement, the hydrophilic polymer film topsheet comprises Nylon 6, Nylon 6 and polyetheramide, or other resins having chemistries similar to nylon.Type: GrantFiled: September 19, 1994Date of Patent: August 6, 1996Inventors: Thomas H.
