Driving voltages are applied in staggered phase to selected ones of the conductors to provide a travelling electrostatic wave within the tube. Charged particles (or fluid or gas) can be propelled through the tube electrostatically by "riding" the travelling wave. Various aspects of the invention are directed to apparatus making use of the microconveyor to convey particles, gas ions, etc. Apparatus is described for using gas pressure resulting from the transport of gas ions to do mechanical work (i.e., to operate mechanical actuators.

In order to produce a woven or non-woven fabric which is mechanically particularly strong and yet can be manufactured economically, each fiber is composed of at least 2000, preferably 3000 individual mono-filaments (3K=200 tex=200 g/1000 m). The woven or non-woven fabric is preferably used for the manufacture of prepregs and henceforth for lightweight structural components especially for the aviation industry and in particular for overhead luggage compartments.

This porous carbonaceous material has high homogeneity, gas permeability, electrical conductivity, heat conductivity and mechanical strength.

The sheet-like insulating material is wrapped at least twice around the hose or article to be insulated. Slits may be cut in the insulating material to make the hose self draining whereby any condensed water can gravity drain once the temperature is above the freezing point of water.

    Abstract: This invention provides an exceptionally expandable sheet elastic complex which consists of an elastic body sheet and a sheet backing material which is mounted on either one or both sides of it, these two members being bonded together along multiple, oblong, mutually parallel bonding sections, and in which multiple, mutually parallel channels are formed between the two members because the width of the sheet backing material between mutually adjacent bonding sections is greater than that of the elastic body sheet. The sheet backing material does not accept more than the minimum constraint of the elastic body sheet, and its waveform surface has excellent properties as a material for use in sanitary products. The invention also provides a process for manufacturing this sheet elastic complex.
