  • Patent number: 11830378
Abstract: A simulated abdominal wall for laparoscopic surgical training and methods of making the wall are provided. The simulated abdominal wall is dome-shaped having a visual appearance of an insufflated abdomen. Also, the wall is strong enough to withstand penetration with surgical trocars without unrealistic buckling or deformation. The wall is supported by a frame along the perimeter without any support structures traversing the wall that would interfere with port placement. The wall includes multiple layers connected together to form a unitary wall to fit a laparoscopic trainer. In one method, a projection of a dome is cut from a flat layer of foam material and assembled within a mold cavity. Consecutive layers with the same or different projection pattern are laid up inside the mold cavity. In another method, a vacuum mold together with heat is used to deform each foam layer. Adhesive is applied between layers to simultaneously join the adjacent layers upon deformation.

  • Patent number: 10321590
Abstract: An electronic device having multiple housing components interlocked together by a molded material is disclosed. In order to provide interlocking surfaces for the molded material, the housing components can include various geometries designed to receive and retain the molded material such that the housing components are secured with one another. For example, a first housing part can undergo several material removal operations to form multiple ribs, each with through holes. When the molded material extends along the ribs and into the through holes, the molded material cures and interlocks with the first housing part. A second housing part can include several stepped indentions that receive the molded material. Also, a third housing part can include a dovetail indention to receive the molded material such that the first and second housing parts interlock with the third housing part. Abstract: A metamaterial thin film with plasmonic properties formed by depositing metallic films by atomic layer deposition onto a substrate to form a naturally occurring mosaic-like nanostructure having two-dimensional features with air gaps between the two-dimensional features. Due to the unique deposition nanostructure, plasmonic thin films of metal or highly conducting materials can be produced on any substrate, including fabrics and biological materials. In addition, these plasmonic materials can be used in conjunction with geometric patterns that may be used to create multiple resonance plasmonic metamaterials.

Abstract: In one embodiment, Hexagonal tiles encompassing a large are divided into three groups, each containing ? of all hexagonal tiles that are disjoined among one another. Openings for the hexagonal tiles in each group are formed in a template layer, and a set of self-assembling block copolymers is applied and patterned within each opening. This process is repeated three times to encompass all three groups, resulting in a self-aligned pattern extending over a wide area. In another embodiment, the large area is divided into rectangular tiles of two non-overlapping and complementary groups. Each rectangular area has a width less than the range of order of self-assembling block copolymers. Self-assembled self-aligned line and space structures are formed in each group in a sequential manner so that a line and space pattern is formed over a large area extending beyond the range of order.
