    Abstract: The present disclosure relates to a substrate apparatus (and methods of manufacturing the same) with one or more substrates having a substrate spacing for growing a cell mass. In particular embodiments, the disclosed substrate apparatus includes a substrate wound into a coiled configuration with an intra-coil spacing between coil layers. To provide the intra-coil spacing, certain implementations use a separator. For example, a separator is applied to a substrate surface, and the separator-substrate combination is wound together (e.g., around a spool). In turn, a locking element is attached to the substrate to maintain the coiled configuration. The separator is then removed via heat treatment, chemical treatment, or physical displacement—thereby leaving the intra-coil spacing between the coil layers. Alternatively, no separator is used to provide a substrate spacing. For example, in lieu of a separator, the locking element is actively applied to the substrate during the winding process.

The light weighting may include creating a structure having a substantially minimum mass necessary to maintain distortion of the mirror within a preset limit. A damaged layer of the non-optical surface caused by light weighting may be removed with an isotropic etch and/or repaired by heat treatment. If an oxide layer is present, the entire blank may then be etched using, for example, hydrofluoric acid. A reflecting coating may be deposited on the optical surface.

The present invention also provides a PDMS microfluidic device where one or more channels of the microfluidic device is provided with a metal oxide coating covalently bound only on the surface of the one or more channels.

    Abstract: A wall insulation panel for use on a wall comprises at least the successive layers of: a first protective panel having a wall-meeting surface and a vacuum insulating panel (VIP) facing surface, an intermediate VIP panel; and a second protective panel having a VIP facing surface and an outward facing surface. There is an expansion region between at least one of the first and second protective panels and the VIP panel to allow for expansion of the VIP panel without deformation of the outward facing surface of the second protective panel. In this way, the expansion region allows for expansion of the VIP panel without deformation of the VIP facing surface of the second panel, and thus without deformation of the outward facing surface. This maintains the integrity and aesthetic appearance of the outward facing surface, and any further surface or layer thereon, such as a rendered layer.

In this manner, the composition of the invention is relatively environmentally friendly as compared to known compositions while maintaining many of the desirable qualities thereof. In addition, the production of the articles of manufacture results in the consumption of fewer fossil fuels and less production of pollutants.

    Abstract: A method of producing a plate-like construction having a double-wall structure and its use. According to the present invention, several elongated profiles which have essentially straight central axes are arranged against each other in such a way that adjacent hollow profiles abut each other and together form, in general terms, a flat stack having two opposite sides.
