Abstract: A monoaxially oriented film including an ethylene-propylene copolymer elastomer, a non-elastomeric propylene-based random copolymer, and a low density polyethylene, which is oriented at least about 2.5 times in one direction and exhibits excellent linear directional tear properties parallel to the orientation direction, excellent heat seal performance in terms of high heat seal strengths and low seal initiation temperature, and is less than 50 ?m in thickness after orientation. This “thin” film formulation and orientation is suitable for pouch applications requiring an “easy-tear” linear tear feature and excellent hermetic seal properties.

Abstract: A label having an adhesive applied proximal to an inner surface of a shrink film (such as a shrink sleeve), which is not transferred to labeling apparatus during application of the shrink label to an article. Thus, the shrink sleeve does not result in a build-up of adhesive on label application apparatus, thereby preventing apparatus downtime; and cannot be removed from the article to which it is applied, (or cannot be removed without damage being done to the label), thereby preventing removal and re-use of the shrink sleeve on counterfeit goods.

Abstract: Layers of an item may be temporarily assembled using a tacky surface on an adhesive layer. The adhesive layer may be activated by the application of energy to cause it to partially or entirely melt to bond layers together. The tacky layer may permit layers to be moved after initial positioning if the positioning is not acceptable. A tacky layer may cover all or part of the surface of an adhesive layer to permit the adhesive to flow without hindrance when activated.

Abstract: The present disclosure is concerned with thermoformable webs with improved puncture resistance suitable for use in semi-automatic horizontal form fill and seal (HFFS) packaging machines and a process for packaging hard food items with sharp angular surfaces using such webs in such machines. The webs have a double wall partially laminated structure. The structure is conveniently formed by adhesively laminating two component films in a face to face configuration using a pattern of adhesive which leaves a substantial portion of the two facing surfaces unlaminated. The lamination just needs to be sufficient that the two component films will hot form together when they are vacuum drawn into a die to form a cavity for packaging the food items. The lamination pattern can vary from just edge strips to the edge strips and a honey comb pattern or a pattern of dots over the facing surfaces between the edge strips.

Abstract: A method for forming a composite trim panel for a vehicle interior begins with a sheet-like appliqué being loaded onto a female negative-vacuum molding tool, wherein the appliqué has a Class A surface facing the female negative-vacuum molding tool and a Class B surface having a heat-activated adhesive. A skin-forming sheet is heated. The skin-forming sheet is negative-vacuum formed into a trim panel skin in the female negative-vacuum molding tool surrounding and atop of the appliqué, wherein the trim panel skin surrounding the appliqué is formed with an in-mold grain. While the trim panel skin remains pliable from the heating and remains in the female negative-vacuum molding tool, a pre-molded rigid substrate is pressed against the trim panel skin to adhere them together.
