Patent number: 4965098Abstract: A two-tone paint film comprises a first paint film and a second paint film formed adjacent to the first paint film, each of the first paint film and the second paint film including pigment comprising a ceramic flake substrate, a transparant inorganic thin film layer formed on the surface of the substrate, and glittering portions having metallic luster comprising metal dots or alloy dots formed on the surface of the thin film layer. The pigment of the first paint film has a different ratio of the total areas of the glittering portions to the entire surface area of the thin film layer from the pigment of the second paint film. Thus, brightness of the two paint films are reversed between a view at the front and a view in an oblique angle.Type: GrantFiled: July 13, 1989Date of Patent: October 23, 1990Assignee: Toyota Jidosha Kabushiki KaishaInventors: Jun-ichi Handa, Hiroshi Ito, Taketoshi Minohara

Patent number: 4940503Abstract: This invention relates to a process for the production of a decorative thermosetting laminate with an abrasion-resistant surface layer, which laminate comprises paper sheets impregnated with a thermosetting resin. In the process a continuous paper is impregnated with a noble thermosetting resin such as melamine-formaldehyde resin. At least one side of the paper is coated with 2-20 g/m.sup.2, preferably 3-12 g/m.sup.2 of small, dry and hard particles evenly distributed over the whole wet surface of the resin on the continuous paper. The resin is dried, whereupon the particle coated impregnated paper, so-called prepreg is possibly cut to sheets. At least one such sheet or continuous paper is placed as a surface layer on a base layer and bonded thereto.Type: GrantFiled: February 17, 1989Date of Patent: July 10, 1990Assignee: Prestorp ABInventors: Kent O. Patent number: 4931324Abstract: A flexible decorative sheet material for use in surfacing automobile body panels and the like is disclosed. The sheet material is characterized by having the appearance of a glossy base coat/clear coat automotive paint finish. The material comprises a substantially transparent outer layer, and a pigmented coating on the undersurface of the outer layer which is visible therethrough. The pigmented coating preferably has reflective flakes uniformly distributed therein to impart to the sheet material the appearance of a base coat/clear coat paint finish. Also disclosed are shaped articles which have such sheet materials adhered to one side thereof, and a method for making such sheet materials.Type: GrantFiled: September 8, 1988Date of Patent: June 5, 1990Assignee: Rexham CorporationInventors: Thomas M.
