  • Patent number: 7973238
Abstract: A ceramic compact having a patterned conductor is obtained by coating the patterned conductor with a slurry and then by hardening the slurry. The slurry is prepared by mixing a thermosetting resin precursor, a ceramic powder, and a medium. In the ceramic compact, an isocyanate- or isothiocyanate-containing gelling agent and a hydroxyl-containing polymer are reacted and hardened to produce a thermosetting resin. The hydroxyl-containing polymer is preferably a butyral resin, an ethylcellulose-based resin, a polyethyleneglycol-based resin, or a polyether-based resin.

Once the paper or film is pressed against a glass sheet, this will leave a thin surface roughness of slip agent that can prevent or reduce glass surface scratches from other surfaces or particles during shipping or finishing (e.g., cutting to size, conveyance of glass), thereby improving the yield of glass shipments between glass forming plants and customers. The thin discontinuous layer of slip agent remaining on the glass surface can be washed off easily in subsequent washing processes. Abstract: A dielectric ceramic composition includes about 10% to about 40% by weight of BaO, about 20% to about 65% by weight of SiO2, about 6% to about 40% by weight of Al2O3, about 1% to about 15% by weight of B2O3, about 0.3% to about 3% by weight of Cr2O3, and about 1% to about 40% by weight of ZrO2. A multilayer ceramic substrate has a laminated structure including an inner layer portion and outer layer portions that have a smaller thermal expansion coefficient than that of the inner layer portion. The use of the dielectric ceramic composition for the outer layer portions enables the ceramic to be resistant to erosion caused by a plating liquid used for plating external conductive films, thus maintaining good adhesiveness between the external conductive films and the outer layer portions.

Abstract: The transparent coating for one or more display areas of a glass or glass-ceramic plate is made by a process using a sol-gel paint containing alkyl silicates as binding agents. The transparent coating is provided on areas of the glass or glass-ceramic plate that have been left uncoated by a color-imparting opaque coating and is formed by applying the sol-gel paint to the areas left open and then thermally treating the sol-gel paint so as to cross-link reactive groups of the alkyl silicates. The coating has organic, non-hydrolyzable groups bound directly to silicon. A process for making the coating and the uses of the coated glass or glass-ceramic plate are part of the invention.

Abstract: A non-vacuum-based, non-collodial chemistry-based method of synthesizing metal nanoparticles and nanoparticle-nanostructured material composites obtained by that method. An embodiment of the method of this invention for fabricating a nanoparticle-nanostructured material composite and synthesizing nanoparticles includes preparing a nanostructured/nanotextured material, and, contacting the nanostructured/nanotextured material with a solution. Nanoparticles are synthesized on the nanostructured/nanotextured material as a result of the contact. The method of the present invention can be utilized to fabricate SPR and SERS substrates for sensing and detection. Additional systems based on this approach (e.g., surface plasmon resonance absorption and alloying sensors and nanocatalysts) are described.

Abstract: A ceramic circuit substrate and a manufacturing method thereof are provided, which has excellent thermal shock tolerance by forming a gap between a circuit pattern section and a ceramic substrate, and has a capability of preventing etchant residue from remaining therein. The ceramic circuit substrate according to the present invention includes patterns of brazing material (8 and 9) formed on the ceramic substrate, and a circuit pattern section jointed to the patterns of brazing material. The patterns of brazing material includes a line pattern along the edge of the circuit pattern. Also, a gap is formed within the line pattern located between the ceramic substrate and the circuit pattern.

Abstract: A multilayer ceramic substrate includes a plurality of stacked glass ceramic layers and internal conductors. The glass ceramic layers contain at least one diffusion element selected from the group consisting of Ti, Zr and Mn. The internal conductors contain Ag as a conductive material. The multilayer ceramic substrate is produced by the steps of adding at least one diffusion element selected from the group consisting of Ti, Zr and Mn to conductive paste and diffusing the diffusion element in the glass ceramic layers around the conductive paste. As a result, defects otherwise possibly generated around the internal conductors can be eliminated with exactitude.
