Patent number: 5460875Abstract: This invention allows to form a nitrided hard layer on the surface of an austenitic stainless steel screw by forming a nitrided layer thereon and to prevent causing rust on some parts such as a screw head portion which is in contact with the outside air by removing the nitrided hard layer to expose austenitic stainless steel base which has sufficient corrosion resistance. On the contrary, in a thread part and the like of the screw, the nitrided hard layer is left and to thereby improves hardness and the like to strengthen tapping functions and the like of the screw. In the method for manufacturing the austenitic stainless steel screw according to the invention, the austenitic stainless steel screw is held in a fluorine- or fluoride-containing gas atmosphere prior to nitriding to form a fluorided film on its surface and then is nitrided in that state. Accordingly, so formed nitrided hard layer becomes uniform and deep to obtain an austenitic stainless steel screw having excellent surface properties.Type: GrantFiled: March 8, 1994Date of Patent: October 24, 1995Assignee: Daidousanso Co., Ltd.Inventors: Akira Yoshino, Masaaki Tahara, Haruo Senbokuya, Kenzo Kitano, Teruo Minato

Patent number: 5350623Abstract: A void-free, latex rubber cushion layer is interposed between the blanket cylinder and the base layer of a compressible printing blanket in an offset printing press. The latex cushion layer has a thickness of from 8 to 12 mils, and has a spring modulus which is substantially less than the spring modulus of the compressible layer in the printing blanket. The latex cushion layer will compress slightly, about 1 mil, in response to preloading at typical preload impression pressure. This means that a good quality print may be obtained at a substantially reduced impression pressure level, since it is not necessary to preload the blanket. During a printing operation, the latex cushion layer is under preload compression and applies a back pressure force which assures a quality imprint. The compressible layer of the blanket, which has a greater spring constant, is not compressed at the typical printing pressure setting.Type: GrantFiled: September 21, 1992Date of Patent: September 27, 1994Inventor: Steven L. Patent number: 5192603Abstract: A process for protecting a rigid substrate against aquatic fouling comprises coating the substrate with an elastomeric undercoat as a 200 to 1500 micron thick layer and with a top coat of a room temperature vulcanisable silicone rubber. The elastomeric undercoat is generally harder than the room temperature vulcanisable silicone rubber foul resistant top coat and preferably has a Shore A hardness of 60 to 90 and an extensibility of 200 to 800%. The abrasion and tear resistance of the silicone rubber foul resistant layer is markedly increased by the use of the elastomeric undercoat.Type: GrantFiled: September 13, 1991Date of Patent: March 9, 1993Assignee: Courtaulds Coatings Inc.Inventors: William W. Patent number: 5190799Abstract: A floor mat (10) is provided which includes longitudinal rail sections (e.g., 16, 17) capable of being interconnected with other longitudinal rails to form a roll up floor mat or pedestrian walking surface. The rails include a plastic cushion layer (21) which can be coextruded onto the upwardly facing surface of an underlying rigid plastic rail core (8), with the cushion layer being softer than the rail core and forming an integral walking surface thereon. At least one living hinge (23) may be employed within the rail section for pivotal movement of the rail, allowing the floor mat to be rolled up.Type: GrantFiled: May 9, 1991Date of Patent: March 2, 1993Assignee: Reese Enterprises, Inc.Inventor: Chester W. Patent number: 5182152Abstract: A label dispensing sheet includes a backing sheet having a layer of a pressure sensitive adhesive releasing material on one face and having a weakened line across its width, a row of adhesive labels releasably disposed on the backing sheet overlying the weakened line, and a release strip releasably disposed on the backing overlying the weakened line. The release strip has a weakened line at a position offset from the weakened line in the backing. This permits a user to grasp and pull away the release strip, exposing the ends of the labels for easy removal. The labels may, for example, be thin, plastic index tabs for labelling book pages.Type: GrantFiled: December 17, 1990Date of Patent: January 26, 1993Inventor: Thomas H. Ericson

Patent number: 5139840Abstract: A trapezoidally-shaped rubber patch for patching the sidewall of a radial-ply tire with broken or damaged cords. The rubber patch has a first layer of rubber containing radial metallic cords and at least one second layer of rubberized fabric with synthetic cords under the first layer. Beneath the second layer is at least one third layer of rubber. The patch has a knurled attachment surface for attaching it to a coresponding knurled tire attachment surface. The rubber patch also has a trapezoidally-shaped rubber plug extending outwardly from the attachment surface. The rubber plug fits into a window which is cut in the sidewall of the tire in the area of the broken or damaged cords. The first layer of rubber is raised with respect to the attachment surface. The first layer of rubber is as wide as the base of the plug in the area beneath it.Type: GrantFiled: July 14, 1989Date of Patent: August 18, 1992Assignee: R.F.P.
