In the method, thin films are formed on substrates such as spheroids with an incident particle beam coming from a particle source located in a specific direction by performing a spin motion together with a swing motion. The spin motion is a rotation of the substrate at a constant angular velocity about the spheroidal axis. The swing motion is a rotational oscillation of the same substrate for rotationally oscillating the axis at a constant cycle in one surface, where the center of the rotational oscillation is in the vicinity of the midpoint between two focal points on the axis of the spheroid.

The sleeve is knitted from a combination of first and second filamentary members having different properties from one another. The filamentary members are plated so that the filamentary members having properties compatible with the substrate are positioned predominantly on the inner surface of the sleeve facing and engaging the substrate. Filament properties include heat resistance, high-tensile strength, resistance to abrasion, chemical attack and damping capability. Ribs are integrally knitted lengthwise along the sleeve to form insulating air pockets. The ends of the sleeve are finished with welts to prevent unraveling.

  • Patent number: 6395396
Abstract: A thermal shock-resistant ceramic article and a method of manufacturing the article include alternating layers of a first material (2) comprising a fusible, particulate ceramic composition and a second material (3), typically comprising a porous, pyrolyzable material. The layered structure increases the article's work of fracture and toughness, and may lead to improved thermal shock-resistance. The method advantageously uses a sheet, film or sleeve to prepare the article for firing. The composition, thickness, and porosity of the second material (3) will affect the desired properties. The method is particularly adapted for manufacturing cylindrical articles, including stopper rods, nozzles, and pouring tubes for the metal casting industry.

Abstract: The present invention relates to a method for metal coating on a tube, particularly a tube for ozone generators which have been widely used for commercial and industrial purposes. Quartz or high aluminum-oxide-containing is a preferred material for the tube for an ozone generator. According to the present method, the tube is coated with a film of gold by putting the tube in a stove wherein the temperature and baking time is controlled. The present method for coating improves the durability of tubes operated at high temperature brought forth by micro-discharge, and thus extends the service life of the tube as used in an ozone generator.
