Flexible Food Casing (e.g., Sausage Type, Etc.) Patents (Class 428/34.8)
  • Patent number: 11999862
Abstract: When making parts by additive manufacturing, particularly by fused filament fabrication, it is sometimes necessary to include a removable support during part fabrication due to the shape of the part. An overhang, for instance, may be fabricated using a support structure, which is subsequently eliminated following polymer matrix consolidation. Elimination of a removable support following part fabrication may be problematic in some instances. Polymer filaments suitable for forming removable supports during additive manufacturing may comprise at least one imide polymer having at least partial solubility in aqueous fluids. Imide polymers may include, for example, polyimides and polyesterimides. Additive manufacturing processes may comprise forming a supported part by depositing a build material and a removable support comprising an imide polymer, wherein at least a portion of the build material is deposited upon the removable support.

A polymer resin is blended with a silicon-based barrier control agent, preferably a polyhedral oligomeric silsesquioxane, to increase the permeability of the sausage casing. The resultant blend can be biaxially stretch-oriented to produce a single-layered polymer-based sausage casing suitable for use with uncooked sausage meats such as chorizo, and specifically suitable for the gas and moisture permeability needed during the curing process for uncooked sausage meats. Such polymer-based casings can also be employed for cooked sausages by choosing a silicon-based barrier control agent that increases gas and moisture barrier, thereby increasing shelf-life for unpeeled sausages. Abstract: The present invention for the first time proposes a multilayer sheet- or tube-type food casing or food film produced by the nozzle blast-drawing process and biaxially oriented by the triple-bubble process, which is fashioned as a food packaging having the form of shrink bags, sealable films, wrapping films or the like. This novel food casing or food film comprises at least nine layers of which an EVOH layer has the form of an oxygen barrier symmetrically embedded between two PA layers intended to impart strength and in turn symmetrically enclosed by two PO layers for the water vapor barrier, and wherein the external layer is formed by a highly temperature-resistant material such as PET which on top of its excellent optical properties also enables clearly higher speeds for further processing (cycle numbers) than were previously known.

Abstract: A multilayer film is provided that comprises a nylon skin layer, a buried high density polyethylene layer, and a sealant layer, for use, for example, to form a package for dry food products. The multilayer film has a thickness of less than about 2.0 mils, such as between 0.8-1.7 mils, a moisture vapor transmission rate of less than about 0.30 g/100 in2/day, and a tear strength in the machine direction of greater than 40 grams, for instance at least about 120 grams. The multilayer film may further include a buried nylon layer and exhibit a tear strength in the machine direction of greater 190 grams.

Abstract: A biopolymer-based food casing having an impregnation on the side facing the food is provided. The impregnation includes at least one hydrophobic, synthetic, organic polymer. By taloring the impregnation, the peelability of the casing may be adjusted to correspond to the type of food contained within the casing. The casing is used, especially, as an artificial sausage casing for raw sausage, scalded-emulsion sausage or cooked-meat sausage.

Abstract: An elastic longitudinal net (1) for longitudinal food products, especially cold meat products, is formed as a sleeve having at least one longitudinal main warp (21) of a tightening chain weave having at least one substantially inextensible thread (213, 214), and at least one weft (3) having at least one elastic fiber and circumferential sections (31), the ends of which are interweaved substantially perpendicularly between the substantially inextensible fiber and longitudinal sections (32) existing between neighboring circumferential sections (31) and running in a concurrent manner relative to and weaved with at least one main warp (21). The longitudinal sections are interweaved through at least one main warp (21) substantially perpendicularly relative to its longitudinal axis, passing through loops (215, 216) of the at least one substantially inextensible thread (213, 214) of the main warp, forming a serpentine run having at least two external loops (321).

  • Patent number: 8580369
Abstract: Embodiments of the invention relate to a cover, a method of covering, and a cover system to be used with shipments of products transported by air with ULDs. The cover system provides thermal protection to temperature-sensitive products in or on the ULD. The cover system maintains the proper relative humidity level and gas concentrations (oxygen, carbon dioxide and ethylene) for horticultural product loads. The cover system can also have antimicrobial properties. In addition, the cover system decreases the amount of water vapor released in the cargo holds which is known to affect the reliability of the aircraft smoke detection system and to cause false fire alarms.
