  • Patent number: 6660350
Abstract: A method for preparing a multi-layer tube, useful prior to endforming for brakeline connections, comprises the steps of forming a metal tube having an outer surface and an end and bonding a corrosion resistant layer to the metal tube outer surface. A surface treatment layer is bonded to the corrosion resistant layer. A first polymeric layer is extruded onto the metal tube, such that is bonds to the surface treatment layer; and a second polymeric layer is extruded onto the metal tube, such that it bonds to the first polymeric layer. The method further comprises the step of vaporizing and removing at least a portion of the first and second polymeric layers from an area adjacent the end by rotating an axially defocused, generally elliptical cross-sectionally shaped laser beam 360° about the area, while leaving the corrosion resistant layer intact.

  • Patent number: 6500374
Abstract: The present invention provides a method for manufacturing a rare-earth bonded magnet as follows: A compound 10, prepared by pelletizing a kneaded mixture of a rare-earth-bonded-magnet composition containing a rare-earth magnet powder, a binder resin and an antioxidant, is stored in a hopper 91, and fed into a cylinder 3 through a feeding pipe 92. Meanwhile, piston 81 is extended by driving an oil-hydraulic cylinder 8, and moved downward to compact the compound 10 fed into the cylinder 3 while gradually transferring the compound downward inside the cylinder 3. The cylinder 3 and a heating portion 41 are heated by heaters 5, the compound 10 passing therethrough is heated to become a melted material 11, and the melted material 11 is continuously extruded out from a die 4 in the downward-vertical direction, and is then cooled and solidified when passing through a tip portion 43, thus obtaining a molded body 12 of a rare-earth-bonded-magnet.

Abstract: A collapsible metal tube, comprising: a metal body portion susceptible of plastic deformation, the body portion being sealed at one end; a shoulder portion and a mouth/neck portion connected to the other end of the body portion; and a resin film provided on the inside wall surface of the body portion, the resin film comprising a metal-adhesive thermoplastic resin layer formed by spray-coating the inside wall surface of the body portion with a dispersion of fine spherical particles consisting of a metal-adhesive thermoplastic resin and then heating to integrate the particles. The resin film formed on the inside of the collapsible metal tube is reliable because it is a dense resin film virtually devoid of pinholes, excellent in elongation at break, and free from cracking when folded or deformed, and is excellent in ability of protecting the metal body portion and the contents.

Abstract: Thermosetting and thermoplastic elastomers are provided having magnetic filler packed within the elastomeric matrix and capable of being aligned and energized, before, during or after the molding of the elastomer. The magnetically-filled elastomers therefore provide useful permanent magnetic fields which being physically soft. The magnetic filler is aligned within the elastomeric matrix and energized by subjecting the magnetically-filled elastomer to magnetic energy before, during and/or after molding of the magnetically-filled elastomer. A particularly preferred magnetically-filled elastomer is a magnetically-filled polyurethane elastomer composition wherein the elastomer is the reaction product of a urethane-forming compound having at least two urethane-forming reactive sites, an elasticizing diol or triol, and a diisocyanate reacted in less than stoiciometric amounts to allow for the formation of urethane linkages involving less than about 85% of the urethane-forming reactive sites.

Abstract: Light metal/CFRP-made structural members which are characterized in that they are structural materials in which a CFRP material is stuck to the surface of a light metal material via an adhesive agent layer of thickness at least 10 &mgr;m and up to 500 &mgr;m, and the volume resistivity of the adhesive agent layer between said metal material and said CFRP material is at least 1×1013 &OHgr;.cm and, furthermore, the adhesive strength at room temperature is at least 15 MPa. In accordance with the present invention, since conventional light metal/CFRP structural materials can be made lighter and, furthermore, since the resistance to galvanic corrosion is outstanding and it is possible to markedly enhance the strength and the impact energy absorption performance, the development of applications and large-scale expansion into new fields becomes possible. Weight reduction and enhancing the durability and reliability of structures also makes a considerable contribution in terms of environmental protection.
