  • Patent number: 6127032
Abstract: A multilayer film useful for making plastic adhesive labels for glass substrates such as glass bottles. The multilayer films contain a base layer, an adhesive layer, and optionally an intermediate layer to improve interlayer bonding between the base layer and the adhesive layer. The adhesive layer comprises a heat-activated thermoplastic adhesive that is not tacky at room temperature. Films of the present invention are sufficiently non blocking at room temperature so as to not require the use of a separate release liner. The film can be utilized in conventional graphics printing operations and made into labels. Labels made from films of the present invention can be thermally adhered to glass substrates and exhibit sufficient adhesion to glass substrates to withstand washing/rinsing, filling, and pasteurization processes utilized in the bottling industry.

  • Patent number: 6083616
Abstract: An adhesive coating or layer has a differential height barrier structure deposited on the surface of one or both sides. Consequently, a highly aggressive adhesive formulation can be temporarily neutralized so as not to resist sliding of an item being positioned on the surface, until pressure is deliberately applied. Conversely, the adhesive system can be carried by decorative sheet material for easy application of the sheet material to cover a wall or floor, whereby the sheet can be slid into exact position without "sticking", before permanent adhesion. The present invention may be implemented by forming an array of discrete surface barrier structures which cover 10-30% of the active surface area of the adhesive. The barrier is preferably formed by an array of minute units of hard material or other discrete structures distributed on the adhesive surface and projecting therefrom by about 0.00025-0.0005 inch.

  • Patent number: 5861348
Abstract: The present invention provides a body-adhesive tape having adhesive properties preventing the tape from peeling off due to sweat when it is applied in an overlapped manner, and which also has good moisture permeability. In the body-adhesive tape, a base cloth is formed from a stretchable warp thread and a standard weft thread. On one side of the base cloth a plurality of pressure-sensitive adhesive layers are formed separated by appropriate gaps. The pressure-sensitive adhesive layers are formed so that they meander left and right along the length of the tape. At the gaps, the base cloth is exposed so there is permeability. Since the gap meanders, it is longer than the tape, and thus there is more exposure of the weave and more permeability. The pressure-sensitive adhesive layers meander so that the tape can be attached anywhere on the body and can respond to tension due to body movement from any direction.
