Abstract: A method for bonding together an existing substrate layer and a pavement layer, such that a strong adhesive bond is formed by using a tack coat, provided by an asphalt emulsion, in between the layers as the bond coat. The tack coat layer is a low-tracking coating which cures quickly such that the pavement layer may be applied to the substrate, hours to days after the emulsion is applied to the substrate. The asphalt emulsion comprises at least a first phase of from about 30% to about 70% of an asphalt composition, about 30% to about 70% water, and about 0.1% to about 3.0% emulsifying agent, stabilizer and/or additives, or 0.1% to about 30% if polymeric or other additives are also included.

Abstract: A method of manufacturing a functional film by which a functional film formed on a film formation substrate can be easily peeled from the film formation substrate. The method includes the steps of: (a) forming a separation layer on a substrate by using an inorganic material which is decomposed to generate a gas by being applied with an electromagnetic wave; (b) forming a layer to be peeled containing a functional film, which is formed by using a functional material, on the separation layer; and (c) applying the electromagnetic wave toward the separation layer so as to peel the layer to be peeled from the substrate or reduce bonding strength between the layer to be peeled and the substrate.

  • Patent number: 7488523
Abstract: A composite membrane comprising a layer of rubberized asphalt having a heavy duty plastic film layer continuously bonded to one side and, optionally, a layer of nonwoven geotextile continuously bonded to the other side. The membrane can be used in vertical or horizontal applications, and is particularly useful for its stress-relief properties that resist crack formation and propagation in concrete walls and slabs in addition to serving as a barrier to moisture, toxic substances and insects. An appropriate composite membrane of the invention can be advantageously utilized in positive side, blindside, underslab or split slab applications. The thickness of the composite membrane preferably ranges from about 30 mils to about 150 mils.

Abstract: Electrically conductive paths are positioned in and extend transversely across the width of the backing of strips of wrapping material. The electrically conductive paths provide means for conducting electrical current through spirally wrapped protective materials from the surrounding earth to voids formed adjacent the overlapped edges of the wrapping material and thus permit cathodic protection for pipe surfaces exposed to voids formed as a result of improper application or bonding failures of the wrapping material.
