  • Patent number: 7754339
Abstract: A highly reflective coating painting product, particularly suitable as a coating for integrating spheres, comprises a diffusely reflective product such as, for example, barium sulphate, and an acrylic binder or glue, which are dispersed in a liquid vehicle, preferably constituted by a mixture of water and alcohol. The acrylic binder or glue is a product based on acrylic polymer or copolymer the quantity of which in the coating product is between about 1% and 15%, and preferably between 3% and 4%, by weight, relative to the reflective product. The coating product is applied to a surface in successive layers until a thickness of at least 0.5 mm is reached. The surface coated with the product is then subjected to heating, preferably at about 100° C., for about 1 hour.

  • Patent number: 7749577
Abstract: Provided are multilayer laminates having one or more layers comprising twisted nematic liquid crystals and one or more layers of a polymeric sheet comprising a polymer with a modulus between 20,000 psi (138 MPa) and 100,000 psi (690 MPa). The twisted nematic liquid crystal layers reflect infrared radiation. Thus, the multilayer laminates are useful to reduce the transmission of infrared energy. For example, in some embodiments the multilayer laminates are useful as windows to reduce energy consumption necessary to cool the interior of a structure such as an automobile or building. Preferably, the multilayer laminates retain the beneficial properties of safety glass. The multilayer laminates may include additional layers such as infrared absorbing layers, half wave plates, and the like, to minimize the transmission of infrared energy. The multilayer laminates may also include further additional layers such as polymeric films, polymeric sheets, rigid sheets, and the like.

Abstract: The present invention describes a process for the surface finishing of materials via application of specific polymethacrylate layers. The polymethacrylate layers are composed of blends of at least two (co)polymers of polymethacrylates, and specific “reactive monomers” are present here in a polymerized mixture which forms the polymethacrylate layer. At the application temperature established, these form a chemical and, where appropriate, also a physical bond to the substrate, and therefore have adhesion-promoting action.

  • Patent number: 7745007
Abstract: Release sheets that can be used to manufacture artificial leather, paneling, and other products, as well as methods of making such release sheets are described. In general, the release sheets include a substrate and a release coating. The release coating is formed on the substrate by applying a crosslinkable material, such as an acrylic functional material, then crosslinking the material. An example of a release coating is the crosslinked reaction product of an acrylic functional material and a Michael donor. The release sheets have surfaces that can be replicated with high fidelity using a casting material, such as a urethane casting material.
