  • Patent number: 8486533
Abstract: An apparatus includes an electronic component mounted on a substrate and metal conductors electrically connecting the electronic component. A conformal coating overlies the metal conductors and comprises a polymer into which a phosphine compound is impregnated and/or covalently bonded. Accordingly, the conformal coating is able to protect the metal conductors from corrosion caused by sulfur components (e.g., elemental sulfur, hydrogen sulfide, and/or sulfur oxides) in the air. That is, the phosphine compound in the polymer reacts with any corrosion inducing sulfur component in the air and prevents the sulfur component from reacting with the underlying metal conductors. Preferably, the phosphine compound in the polymer does not react with other components in the air (e.g., carbon dioxide) which would otherwise deplete its availability for the target reaction. The phosphine compound may be rendered completely non-volatile by covalently bonding it directly into the polymer backbone.

Abstract: A film that contains a thermoplastic polyurethane and water-soluble polymer is provided. The film is both elastic and water-sensitive (e.g., water-soluble, water-dispersible, etc.) in that it loses its integrity over time in the presence of water. The dual attributes of elasticity and water-sensitivity may be achieved by reducing the tendency of the thermoplastic polyurethane and water-soluble polymer to form separate phases. Namely, phase separation may cause the elastomer to act as a barrier and limit the ability of the water-soluble polymer to contact water and thereby disperse. To minimize such phase separation, a variety of aspects of the film construction may be selectively controlled, such as the nature of the thermoplastic polyurethane and water-soluble polymer, the relative amount of each component, and so forth.

Abstract: The present invention discloses films, papers, and fabrics (both woven and non-woven) that are more receptive to inks or dyes. These ink/dye receptive products are made by coating the surface of the film, paper, or fabric with certain acrylate polymers. These ink/dye receptive films, papers and fabrics have the ability to then be used in making laminated and coated products. The subject invention more specifically discloses an ink/dye receptive film which is comprised of a base film which is coated with an acrylate polymer, comprised of 1 weight percent to 20 weight percent repeat units of at least one unsaturated aliphatic olefin monomer containing from 4 to 30 carbon atoms.

Abstract: The invention relates to the production of a transparent, weather-resistant barrier film by lamination, extrusion lamination (adhesive lamination, melt lamination or hotmelt lamination) or extrusion coating. The film can also contain a scratch-resistant coating. For this purpose, two or more transparent film composites, which consist in each case of two externally disposed polyolefin or polyester layers which are in each case inorganically coated and glued to the inorganic layer on the inside, are connected to each other. Said composite is laminated with a weather-resistant, transparent film (e.g. PMMA or PMMA polyolefin coextrudate or PMMA polyester coextrudate). The inorganic oxide layers have the property of a high optical transparency while having at the same time a good barrier effect against water vapour and oxygen while the PMMA layer exhibits weather resistance stability.

Abstract: A building element selected from a roofing tile or siding element may be formed from a first cementitious mixture and a second cementitious mixture containing a photocatalytic cementitious mixture. The first cementitious mixture and the photocatalytic cementitious mixture may be co-formed into a shaped uncured two layer monolith having a base layer of the first cementitious mixture and a top layer of the photocatalytic cementitious mixture. The shaped uncured two layer monolith is then cured. The resulting building element may be algae-resistant.

Abstract: A label of the present invention is characterized by a three-dimensional design image printed theron on the basis of two-dimensional image data obtained by three-dimensionally correcting at least one data selected from two dimensional data (X,Y) and color data (R,G,B) to two-dimensionally convert height data (Z) among three-dimensional data (X,Y,Z) and the color data (R,G,B) obtained by actually measuring a surface of a three-dimensional model. Such a label can be provided with printed images giving three-dimensional impressions close to the three-dimensional model (real model).
