Patent number: 4568587Abstract: A floor mat including a plurality of rigid, elongated rails each having a side edge positioned in substantially parallel, spaced relationship to a respective side edge of an adjacent rail. A passageway opens inwardly from each rail side edge and includes an outer portion adjacent the side edge and an inner portion. The passageway inner portions have greater cross-sectional dimensions than the passageway outer portions. Each pair of adjacent rails is interconnected by an elongated, flexible hinge member which comprises a pair of opposite, spaced flanges extending longitudinally with respect to the hinge member. The flanges are interconnected by a web having a cross-sectional thickness less than a cross-sectional thickness of each of the flanges. The hinge member flanges are each slidably received in a respective passageway inner portion.Type: GrantFiled: September 25, 1981Date of Patent: February 4, 1986Assignee: Balco, Inc.Inventor: Claude P. Patent number: 4568585Abstract: A light-weight, high-strength contourable core for inclusion in a contoured structural laminate in which the core is sandwiched between facing skins. The core is constituted by a planar array of block-like modules preferably made of end-grain balsa wood held together in edge-to-edge relation by a scrim formed by elastomeric filaments which extend through the body of the modules in an intermediate plane parallel to the opposing faces of the core. When the planar core is pressed against a wet-coated contoured skin surface for lamination thereto, the filaments bridging adjacent modules elongate to an extent permitting these modules to separate and conform to this surface. The filaments have an elastic recovery force low enough to prevent the modules from overcoming the surface tension created by the wet-coated surface and pulling away therefrom. However, the holding power of the filaments is sufficient to preclude disassembly of the core modules during normal core handling procedures.Type: GrantFiled: February 22, 1985Date of Patent: February 4, 1986Assignee: Baltek CorporationInventors: Jacques Kohn, Joseph E. Pantalone, Kurt Feichtinger

Patent number: 4555435Abstract: An apparatus and method for identifying race contestants and racing animals incorporating a detachable and interchangeable is described. The body of the label is detachably secured to the front of a piece of supporting material, such as a horse's saddle towel. The ends of the label are passed through slots in the saddle towel proximate to the corners thereof and are secured to the back of the saddle towel. This ensures that the label remains securely in place on the saddle towel, and remains flush and aligned therewith during the racing event so that the name or other identification is clearly visible to spectators.Type: GrantFiled: January 30, 1984Date of Patent: November 26, 1985Inventor: Ernest J. Patent number: 4536427Abstract: A light-weight contourable core of high strength for inclusion in boat hulls in which the core is sandwiched between facing sheets of resin-reinforced fiberglass. The core is formed by a planar array of block-like modules made of end-grain balsa wood or other material having acceptable properties whose adjacent edges are held together by flexible adhesive joints that have a short elastic limit, such that when the planar core is pressed against a contoured surface for lamination thereto, the resultant stresses cause the joints to stretch beyond their elastic limit to an extent necessary to permit the modules to conform to this surface. There is no spring back when the pressure is released, and the modules, therefore, maintain their conformed positions.Type: GrantFiled: March 26, 1984Date of Patent: August 20, 1985Assignee: Baltek Corp.Inventor: Henri-Armand Kohn

Patent number: 4535015Abstract: A large water and air impervious textile panel suitable for use as a pond liner, tarpaulin, or the like, is constructed from a plurality of smaller panels. Each small panel comprises a weft inserted warp knit fabric having reinforcing substrate strips disposed at the selvedge edges thereof, and the strips spaced from each other along the width of the fabric. The small panels are chemically finished by first applying an adhesive system such as an isocyanate, and then a thermoset or thermoplastic polymer coating. The selvedge edges are prepared for attachment to each other by buffing and then applying an adhesive cement. The buffing does not extend along the width of each small panel any further than the width of the selvedge reinforcing substrate strip. Adjacent selvedge edges of the small panels are overlapped, and then attached to each other with the cement adhesive. Alternatively the overlapped small panel edges may be ultrasonically or thermally bonded to each other.Type: GrantFiled: March 2, 1984Date of Patent: August 13, 1985Assignee: Burlington Industries, Inc.Inventors: Jeffrey W. Patent number: 4518447Abstract: A multi-sectioned, decorative panel for use in a bathtub surround or the like, the panel having an overall decorative pattern on the exposed surface thereof. The sections of the panel are retained in assembly with the overall decorative pattern of the sections in exact registry and alignment by means of an adhesive strip secured to the section edges and forming a hinge about which the panels can be folded for packaging and shipping and which remains in place during installation, so as to prevent misalignment of the panels, disruption of the overall decorative pattern, and any water leakage between the panel sections. The method of making the multi-sectioned panel is disclosed, as well as the method of installing the panel on a wall surface.Type: GrantFiled: July 11, 1980Date of Patent: May 21, 1985Inventor: Phillip D.
