  • Patent number: 7988809
Abstract: Aircraft floor and interior panels where core-skin bonding is improved between honeycomb and composite face sheets (skins) by applying a polyamide and/or rubber-containing adhesive to the edge of the honeycomb prior to bonding. Edge coating of the honeycomb allows one to reduce panel weight without reducing the performance parameters that are required for different types of aircraft floor and interior panels.

  • Patent number: 7943213
Abstract: A layered, artificial surface including plural components filled with microbeads of pre-selected sizes, shapes and depths. The microbeads of the pre-selected sizes and shapes and depths provide plural different types of resistance and firmness for the artificial surface. Pre-determined chemical compounds are applied to the microbeads to change a surface charge on the microbeads, or produced with a desired surface charge to provide different interactions and thus different types of resistance and firmness for the artificial surface. The artificial surface does not require the application of a vacuum to maintain a shape or resistance.

  • Patent number: 7923092
Abstract: A blanket is provided including a first panel of material having a honeycombed portion that is expanded to form a second, projecting panel from the first panel material. The invention also includes a method of reducing the material needed to construct a multipanel structure. The method includes the steps of providing a first panel of material; honeycombing a portion of that first panel and expanding the honeycombed portion of the first panel to form a second panel projecting from the first panel. Advantageously, the second panel is formed from material of the first panel and no additional material is required.

  • Patent number: 7914724
Abstract: Disclosed is a method and apparatus for forming a circumferential skin surrounding a central cellular structure of an extruded honeycomb article. The method and apparatus may be used to produce defect-free skins and/or skins having large thickness and a high degree of particle alignment thereby preferably exhibiting CTE comparable to the extruded webs. These benefits are achieved by providing a die and method wherein a flow, Q, exiting any two active ones of a plurality of peripheral slots forming the skin is substantially equal. Also disclosed is a thick-skinned ceramic article having a thick extruded skin (ts?>5 tw?) with an I-value comparable to the webs.

  • Patent number: 7875141
Abstract: A method of restoring a section of a composite having a honeycomb bonded to a perforated skin includes the steps of separating a first honeycomb from the perforated skin to expose a portion of the perforated skin, inserting pins through perforations in the perforated skin, extending the pins through a repair material, attaching the repair material to the exposed portion of the perforated skin, and attaching a second honeycomb to the repair material. The method may include removing material from the exposed portion of the perforated skin, prior to inserting pins through the perforations, to create a more even bonding surface for attaching the repair material.

  • Patent number: 7776170
Abstract: A method of continuously forming a multilayer panel includes making a gypsum slurry, then dividing the gypsum slurry into at least a primary gypsum slurry and a secondary gypsum slurry. An additive slurry having water and an intumescent material is created, then added to the secondary gypsum slurry to make an expandable layer slurry that is spread over at least a portion of a facing material. The primary gypsum slurry is distributed over the secondary gypsum slurry over the facing material and the expanding layer slurry to form a core. Optionally, another layer, an edge coating, is applied to the expanding layer for additional fire protection. The edge coating includes a second intumescent material. During a fire, the expanding layer expands to increase the thickness of the fire exposed gypsum panel and the edge coating expands to seal the gap between adjoining gypsum panels.
