Abstract: Double-sided reworkable pressure sensitive adhesive tape joins electronic device structures. The reworkable pressure sensitive adhesive tape has a pair of polymer carrier layers that are attached to each other using a thermoplastic adhesive. Opposing outer surfaces of the carrier layers are coated with pressure sensitive adhesive. The thermoplastic material that is used in attaching the carriers to each has a softening temperature that allows the thermoplastic material to be softened without significantly softening the carrier layers. When the thermoplastic material is softened, the structures that have been joined using the tape may be separated from each other. This divides the tape into two tape remnants. After cooling the tape remnants to restore cohesive strength to the pressure sensitive adhesive, the tape remnants can be cleanly peeled away from the structures. Additional reworkable tape may then be used to reattach the structures.

Abstract: A method for fabricating custom surface reflectance and spatially-varying bi-directional reflectance distribution functions (BDRFs or svBRDFs). The 3D printing method optimizes micro-geometry to produce a normal distribution function (NDF) that can be printed on surfaces with a 3D printer. Particularly, the method involves optimizing the micro-geometry for a wide range of analytic NDFs and simulating the effective reflectance of the resulting surface. Using the results of the simulation, the appearance of an input svBRDF can be reproduced. To this end, the micro-geometry is optimized in a data-driven fashion and distributed on the surface of the printed object. The methods were demonstrated to allow 3D printing svBRDF on planar samples with current 3D printing technology even with a limited set of printing materials, and the described methods have been shown to be naturally extendable to printing svBRDF on arbitrary shapes or 3D objects.

Abstract: An apparatus and system for supporting a plurality of parallel spaced apart trusses, each truss having top and bottom member each having an inside and an outside edge wherein the top member is angularly oriented relative to the bottom member. The apparatus comprises a body having a truss engaging slot adapted to engageably receive a top or bottom member of the truss therethrough and first and second brace engaging panels extending substantially perpendicularly to the slot. Each brace engaging panel is adapted to engageably receive a braces thereagainst wherein each brace extending angularly between adjacent trusses. The system comprises top and bottom brackets on the top and bottom member of the truss and at least one brace member extending therebetween.

Abstract: A coupon geometry that reliably fails in the gauge area of the coupon during fatigue testing. The propensity to fail at the gauge area is imparted by using a bow-tie-shaped coupon coupled with similarly shaped tabs. The test coupons have a bow-tie-shaped profile with tapered sides that converge as they extend from the opposing ends of the coupon to the gauge area, forming a pair of trapezoidal portions (one the mirror image of the other) connected by the gauge area. These trapezoidal portions of the test coupon include the regions where similarly trapezoidal tabs will be adhered to the front and back of the coupon. The test coupon has a minimum width in the gauge area and a constant thickness, and a height of the gauge area is no greater than 3% of a height of the test coupon.

The method of form the CMC component includes providing a component preform having a first end, a second end, and a cavity, the cavity having a pre-determined shape and a first engagement surface. The method includes forming a tip member from a pre-consolidated composite material, the tip member having a second engagement surface generally conforming to the first engagement surface. The method includes directing the second engagement surface to the first engagement surface. The method includes consolidating the component preform and tip member. The ceramic matrix composite component is formed having a desired geometry and the tip member stays in place in the cavity during operation of the ceramic matrix composite component.

Abstract: A protective wrap for application to a wooden baseball bat to prevent the release of fragments should the baseball bat shatter during use is formed of an elongated piece of polymeric film that has a first end and an opposite second end, a first side edge, and an opposite second side edge. The piece has a first tapered region terminating at the first end and a second tapered region terminating in the second end. Within each of the first and second tapered regions, the first and second side edges converge. The piece also includes a main section located between the first and second tapered regions. The first and second side edges are parallel to one another along the length of the main section. A back surface of the polymeric film includes an adhesive for adhering the polymeric film to the baseball bat and to any underlying polymeric film.

Abstract: The present invention provides an improved method and apparatus for placing alignment marks, such as arrows or lines, on golf balls. An alignment mark composed of dry transfer ink is provided on a clear transfer medium having a backing material. Once the position of the alignment mark is chosen, the clear transfer medium containing the alignment mark is removed from the backing. Warm air provided by the user's breath is applied to the transfer medium to aid in its adhesion to the golf ball surface. The transfer medium is then placed on the desired position on the ball and rubbed in the center and then front and back of the transfer medium to transfer the dry ink alignment mark from the clear transfer medium to the ball surface. Once the alignment mark has transferred to the ball surface, the clear transfer medium can be peeled away, leaving only the alignment mark on the ball surface. The alignment mark is then rubbed with the fingers to finalize the adhesion of the alignment mark with the bail surface.
