  • Patent number: 9720881
Abstract: A new class of polyhedron is constructed by decorating each of the triangular facets of an icosahedron with the T vertices and connecting edges of a “Goldberg triangle.” A unique set of internal angles in each planar face of each new polyhedron is then obtained, for example by solving a system of n equations and n variables, where the equations set the dihedral angle discrepancy about different types of edge to zero, where the independent variables are a subset of the internal angles in 6 gons. Alternatively, an iterative method that solves for angles within each hexagonal ring may be solved for that nulls dihedral angle discrepancy throughout the polyhedron. The 6 gon faces in the resulting “Goldberg polyhedra” are equilateral and planar, but not equiangular, and nearly spherical.

  • Patent number: 7740716
Abstract: The present invention provides a technique to improve an adhesion strength between a magnet main body and a protective film. The rare earth sintered magnet of the present invention comprises a magnet main body of a sintered body containing a rare earth element and a protective film formed on the magnet main body, wherein the ratio of a 10-point average surface roughness Rz of the magnet main body on which the protective film is formed to a mean grain size D50 in the magnet main body (Rz/D50 ratio) is kept in a range from 0.20 to 10.00, inclusive. This gives the rare earth sintered magnet which is coated with the protective film having a high adhesion strength of 100 N/m or more and exhibits high corrosion resistance.

  • Patent number: 7682837
Abstract: The invention includes devices and methods for forming random arrays of magnetic particles, arrays formed using these devices and methods, and to methods of using the arrays. The invention provides an assembly (chip) with magnetic domains that produce localized magnetic fields capable of immobilizing magnetic particles such as commercially available magnetic beads. Probe or sensor molecules can be coupled to the beads, which are then dispersed on the assembly, forming a random order array. The arrays can be used for analyzing samples, targets, and/or the interaction between samples and targets. The invention finds particular use in processes such as high-throughput genotyping and other nucleic acid hybridization-based assays.

  • Patent number: 7674509
Abstract: A tape-type magnet including a soft magnetic substrate which is a thin strip or tape with magnetic attraction. A first adhesive layer is uniformly laid on one face of the magnetic substrate. A releasable facial layer is bonded with the other face of the magnetic substrate via a second adhesive layer. The adhesion provided by the second adhesive layer is greater than an adhesion provided by the first adhesive layer, whereby the releasable facial layer is releasable from the first adhesive layer. The magnetic substrate is wound into a roll with the second adhesive layer serving as an outer face and the first adhesive serving as an outer face and the first adhesive layer serving as an inner face. An outermost end of the magnetic substrate can be easily unwound and tore off into a segment.
