  • Patent number: 9806310
Abstract: The present invention extends to methods, systems, devices, apparatus, and computer program products for protecting against runaway thermal failure of a battery pack. A fireproof container is built with a thermo-sensitive panel cover leading to the outside environment. When battery failure causes temperatures to rise inside one of the compartments, the panel cover material reacts, causing it open, allowing flames and hot gasses to vent and preventing the buildup of heat internally. Internal sensors may detect the activation of the cover material and allow an electric or electronic circuit to isolate the contents of the failed container from the rest of the system.

  • Patent number: 9391306
Abstract: A battery carriage is provided, including first and second dual-contact assemblies. The first dual contact assembly is disposed on a body portion of the battery carriage and the second dual contact assembly is disposed on a separable portion of the battery carriage. Each dual contact assembly includes a positive contact configured to contact a positive terminal of a battery and a negative contact configured to contact a negative terminal of the battery. The separable portion of the battery carriage is selectively moveable into and out of a coupled state with the body portion. When the separable portion is moved into the coupled state, the dual contact assemblies are held spaced apart to define a receptacle in which the dual contact assemblies hold opposing ends of the battery.

  • Patent number: 9373827
Abstract: A battery compartment insert for use with a battery holder that utilizes an assembly of two cells sealed in shrink wrap, thus replacing the need for use of the battery assembly. The insert includes a battery compartment lid for holding two separate lithium bromide battery cells and four electrical contacts. There are two electrical contacts corresponding to each battery cell. The battery compartment lid includes two diodes each corresponding to one of the battery cells and guide posts such that each individual battery cell can be taken out and replaced. The battery compartment lid corresponds to the battery holder such that two electrical contacts are each able to electrically communicate with a corresponding battery cell such that a device may be powered by the battery cells.

  • Patent number: 9368768
Abstract: Battery corrosive electrolyte leak is decreased by using an adjustable mechanical retention device to bias a plurality of batteries toward a first end of the series configuration wherein the adjustable mechanical retention device creates a snug mechanical fit at a bottom surface of the metal can of the terminal battery. When the device in which batteries are being used is a flashlight, a two-piece tail cap can be used, an inner member of which is driven by an outer member, and tail caps of existing flashlights can be replaced so that a strong tail cap spring no longer provides a biasing means against the terminal contact of the terminal battery.
