Abstract: Battery sub-arrays are configured for electrical and mechanical coupling with each other to form a multi-cell battery. A sub-array may be an individual cell or a group of cells. Each sub-array includes a bypass switch to connect the sub-array within the multi-cell battery or bypass the sub-array. Monitor and control circuitry controls the bypass switch in response to voltage measurements, temperature measurements or a combination thereof for the sub-array. Each sub-array is contained in a holder including a housing and a thermal container encompassing a substantial portion of the housing. The housing includes a cell cavity, a sensor cavity, and a circuit cavity. Positive terminals and negative terminals are positioned on sides of the holder such that when holders are mechanically abutted in an array, various electrical connections can be made to connect the cells in series, parallel, or a combination thereof.

Abstract: A composite battery capable of adjusting its own power output in response to predetermined signals or lack of predetermined signals is provided. The composite battery has a set of terminals, a battery, a sensing device and a switch, all housed within a casing, which can be in the shape of a conventional battery. The sensor captures signals which upon reaching a certain threshold cause the switch to engage or disengage to selectively provide a load current to an electronic device. The battery may be used in battery-controlled consumer electronics articles, such as toys, to prevent avoidable battery drain or unintended activation when the electronics article is not in use.

Abstract: A multi-port reconfigurable battery has at least one bank of statically joined series connected battery cells, each including a positive and negative pole connected through switches to respective output connections on at least one port. Processor controlled switches reconfigure the cells to provide power for electrical loads on one or more ports and simultaneously provide charging on one or more other ports. An alternative configuration divides groups of series connected cells into separate battery banks that permit other configurations. Ports are configurable to share one electrically common connection with other ports providing a simplified configuration (multi-tap reconfigurable battery). Applications include selectable motor speed control and battery regeneration schemes matched to motor output, and single or multiphase AC power output at selectable frequencies for use as an Uninterruptible Power Supply. The battery is also described as a power source for a forced-air induction system (e.g.

Abstract: A removable and short-circuit-avoidable lithium battery module mainly makes use of a protective device mounted between a control circuit and any two cells. Wherein, the protective device includes a base plate and a conductive surface connecting with the cell, an output tab connecting with the control circuit, and a protective unit mounted on the conductive surface and the output tab. Whereby, the conductive surface and the output tab have larger areas to respectively link the cell and the control circuit. While connecting with electricity, the cell and the control circuit would be more accurately connected. Moreover, the protective unit would become disconnected while the cell and the control circuit are fell and collided, so as to prevent the cell and the control circuit from the inaccurate connection and destruction. The present invention also facilitates to swiftly replace the protective device while it is damaged and to contribute a convenient utility.

Abstract: The number of battery cells connected together in a main battery conductor path of a multiple cell battery system of an information handling system may be varied in real time based on one or more operating conditions (e.g., system load power consumption, battery cell failure, etc.) of the information handling system. Defective battery cells may be bypassed such that the defective battery system may continue to operate and power an information handling system at a lower voltage, e.g., either temporarily, permanently or temporarily until the user procures a suitable replacement battery system. Interconnection of cells of a non-defective multiple cell battery system may also be selectively re-arranged to vary battery system voltage at particular times or during particular information handling system operation modes.
