In a second embodiment, an assembly may be covered in a plurality of layers of material, such as first layer of plastic, a layer of metal, and then a second layer of plastic. Each of the coverings may be formed by dipping the assembly in plastic or metal (or other material), molding layers around the assembly, coating the assembly in the layers, vapor depositing plastic or metal (or other material) onto the assembly, and/or a combination of these operations.

Abstract: Printed electronics are increasingly becoming an important industry, thus innovations to integrate the various components and processes would be very useful to expand this industry. Disclosed are innovational concepts that would be very useful to accelerate this industry. Webs of printed electronics, antennas, power sources (cells/batteries), and assembly substrates can be merged together to form a completed electronic assembly that could be, for example, in label form or in a stand alone electronic device.

Abstract: A device for suppressing fires generated by lithium-ion batteries exhibiting thermal runaway. The device can include a thermally insulating enclosure for housing one or more battery cells. A fluid delivery system having a heat/temperature sensitive tube passes through each enclosure and contains an agent capable of extinguishing fires. When the cell or battery starts to undergo thermal runaway, the increase in temperature or the eruption of open flame causes the fluid delivery system to rupture inside the enclosure. The agent leaks out of the rupture and is transported into the enclosure and onto the malfunctioning cell or battery. Any fire is suppressed and the cell or battery is cooled down by the agent.
