Patent number: 5819464Abstract: A condition-adaptable fishing net designed to catch more fish. The fishing net includes a single, large panel of netting having a main, light color capable of blending in water under certain water and lighting conditions. Disposed randomly over the panel of netting are a plurality of various sizes and shapes of colored areas, each having a color selected from a group of colors, all capable of blending in water under different water and lighting conditions. By randomly creating different colored areas over the net panel, what fish will believe to be holes or barrier free areas, appear randomly in the panel of netting. During use, the different colored shapes randomly appear as holes or barrier free areas in the panel of netting through which the fish then attempt to swim, thus becoming entangled in the net.Type: GrantFiled: January 26, 1998Date of Patent: October 13, 1998Inventor: John Jovanovich

Patent number: 5647160Abstract: A gill net includes multiple sections dyed different colors. Fish (28) avoid sections of the net that are more visible and swim into one or more other sections of the net that are less visible in water. In a first embodiment (10) of the multi-colored net, an upper section (22) is colored to be visible to fish in water. A middle section of the net (24) is colored to generally blend with the water, while a lower section (26) is also colored to be visible to the fish. Different color schemes are used in other embodiments of the gill net. Fish attempting to swim over or under the sections of the net that are more visible become entrapped in the mesh within the section of the net that is less visible. Spaced-apart floats (16) are disposed along the top edge of the gill net, and a lead line (20) is threaded through the lower edge of the gill net to insure its vertical orientation in the water.Type: GrantFiled: October 12, 1995Date of Patent: July 15, 1997Assignee: Northwest International Development CorporationInventor: Ronald A. Patent number: 4763432Abstract: A hanging cord is threaded through the top selvage of the net or web of a fishnet assembly and is secured at regularly spaced locations to separate anchor blocks which, in turn, are secured to the fishnet corkline. The anchor blocks have rigid bodies and swingable connectors with arms projecting from the block bodies for attachment of the hanging cord to the connector arms, such as by clips clamping the hanging line and having pins fitted through eyes in the arms. The securing of the anchor blocks to the corkline can be by straps threaded through the block bodies and tightenable to clamp the blocks to the corkline. The bottom selvage of the net can be connected to the lead line in the same manner by threading a separate hanging cord through the bottom selvage and securing it at regularly spaced intervals to corresponding anchor blocks clamped to the lead line.Type: GrantFiled: August 2, 1985Date of Patent: August 16, 1988Inventor: Robert W. Patent number: 4693031Abstract: A connector (12) for detachably interconnecting the intermediate portions of first and second lines includes a body (32) formed with a first cross hole (34) and a slit (36) extending from the outer periphery of the body crosswise through a portion of the body to intersect the first cross hole (34) along the length thereof. The intermediate portion of the first line (30) is slid transversely through the slit (36) into engagement within the first cross hole. A second cross hole (40) extends through the body at an orientation generally transversely to the first cross hole (34) to cross through slit (36). A groove (42) extends around the outer periphery of the body (32) and intersects the ends of the second cross hole (40). A second line (22), doubled upon itself, is threadably engaged through the second cross hole (40) and then looped around the body (32) to seat within groove (42), thereby preventing the second line from being detached from the body when the ends of the second line are drawn taut.Type: GrantFiled: January 22, 1985Date of Patent: September 15, 1987Inventor: John R. Patent number: 4489516Abstract: A device for the trapping of snakes and similar animals having an area of netting to be placed on the ground and releasably secured thereto and shaped such that a plurality of areas of the netting are substantially non-horizontal to the ground. A snake attempting to traverse the area of netting will pass into an interstice of the area of netting until its body size prevents forward motion. The scales of the snake will engage the strands of the netting preventing the snake from retreating from the netting and thus effectively trapping the snake.Type: GrantFiled: September 30, 1982Date of Patent: December 25, 1984Inventor: Albert B. Moorhead

Patent number: 4449316Abstract: A device for the trapping of snakes and similar animals having a sheet of netting to be placed on the ground shaped so that a plurality of areas of the netting are substantially non-horizontal to the ground. A snake attempting to traverse the sheet will pass into an interstices until its body size prevents forward motion. The scales of the snake will catch on the strands of the netting preventing the snake from retreating from the netting.Type: GrantFiled: August 31, 1982Date of Patent: May 22, 1984Inventor: Albert B. Patent number: 4447978Abstract: Fish are captured utilizing a chain reaction of larger fish feeding on smaller fish. A bait-enclosing structure is mounted within a frame, and a first net is provided surrounding and substantially concentric with the bait-enclosing structure. The first net has openings formed therein large enough to allow small fish to insert their heads through the openings in an attempt to feed on the bait and catch their gills on the net if withdrawal is attempted. The assembly is lowered into a body of water, and after a predetermined time period a desired number of fish are trapped within the assembly utilizing a second net surrounding the first net, and then the assembly is raised to the surface. Entrapment may be provided by providing the second net having larger openings than the first net and concentric therewith, so that fish attempting to feed on fish caught by the first net will be caught by the second net.Type: GrantFiled: August 19, 1982Date of Patent: May 15, 1984Inventor: Thomas E. Robison

Patent number: 4237646Abstract: The portable fish catcher comprises a fish trap of a type employing gill netting which is attached at top and bottom respectively to a pair of rings which may be oval, triangular, rectilinear, round, or other geometrical configuration. Additional steadiness of the catcher is provided by flexible lines interconnecting the two rings which lines are placed on the inside of the gill netting. The top ring has attached thereto a float so that when the catcher is placed in the water, the weight of the rings extends the catcher downwardly. Bait is suspended within the catcher by attachment to the tilt ring or to the float. The float attached to the top ring has means thereon for attaching a line so that the catcher may be retrieved. The weight of the rings causes the catcher to be extended to the full length of the interconnecting lines. When the catcher is not in use, it collapses to the height of the diameter of the two rings plus the float.Type: GrantFiled: August 4, 1978Date of Patent: December 9, 1980Inventor: Priestly G. Mims, III
