Abstract: A fishing rod and reel system including a fulcrum gripping portion which also aligns the rod and a leverage gripping portion for providing lengthy and arcuate line castings with also an arm or body brace. The fishing pole has a long slender body with a longitudinal center line. The leverage gripping portion and a tip are on opposite ends of the fishing pole. The fulcrum gripping portion is positioned between the leverage gripping portion and the tip. A user places a first hand on the fulcrum gripping portion and the second hand on the leverage gripping portion, the first hand is held in one general position with the user's wrist allowing the fishing pole to pivot about the first hand. The second hand in contact with the leverage portion is quickly moved along an arcuate path about the first hand thereby casting line and lure or weight from the tip of the fishing rod.

Abstract: A fishing rod handle having an upper elongate segment, a lower elongate segment, and an arcuate connecting segment joining the upper and lower segments so that the handle has generally a U-shape. The upper and lower segments include upper and lower portions shaped to be grasped by a human hand, and the lower segment includes a reel seat positioned forwardly of the lower portion. The handle may be grasped comfortably by both hands while casting such that the hands are positioned in different planes. In a preferred embodiment, the handle is weighted so that the center of gravity of a combination of the handle and an associate rod shaft lies along the upper segment directly across from the reel seat.

Abstract: The rod includes a rod body tapered toward its tip and a handle coupled with the root of the rod body. A cylindrical relay member tapered at an angle greater than that of the rod body is fitted onto a coupling portion at the outer periphery of one end of the handle. The relay member includes at one end thereof a transmission portion for receiving the motion of a hooked fish through the rod body. As a result, an angler can sense the motion of a hooked fish through the cylindrical relay member by his hand gripping the handle.

Abstract: A fishing rod assembly comprising a base frame including a stationary retainer and a gripping means for attaching a pair of legs of a reel whereby the reel can be tightly secured to the handle of the fishing rod.

Abstract: A fishing rod handle assembly wherein the rim of a molded foregrip engages the foot of a fishing reel to secure it to the rod handle. The rim is reinforced by inserting a reinforcing ring into a slot and securing it with a suitable adhesive.

Abstract: A multi component butt of the type designed for use in combination with a fishing rod used for trolling from the back of boats generally some distance from shore. The butt includes an elongated shank portion comprising a major length of the subject butt and having a hollow interior portion of substantially straight line, linear configuration wherein the hollow interior portion has a substantially common inner diameter extending along a vast majority of its length. A gimble is press fitted into one end of the shank portion and a guide tube is press fitted into the opposite end so as to protrude outwardly therefrom to accomplish a bonded fixed engagement with reel seat tube on which a reel used in combination with a finishing rod is mounted. One or more additional bushings may be disposed, through press fitting, on the interior of the shank portion for further retention and stability of the end of the rod passing into the interior of the shank portion through the guide tube.

Abstract: A fishing rod assembly which includes a flexible, hollow fishing rod attached to one end of a reel mount which is shaped to receive a reel pod, and a handle attached to the opposite end of the reel mount for handling the fishing rod. The reel pod is further characterized by a shaped housing having a pair of removable end caps and containing an electric motor provided with a drive bevel gear in engagement with the bevel gear of a cooperating spool containing a supply of fishing line. The fishing line is wound on the spool and extends through apertures in the front end cap and the reel mount, and then through the hollow interior of the fishing rod to exit the end of the rod for tying to a lure. An optional reel handle is provided for engagement with the spool, and the fishing line can be wound on the spool in conventional fashion to retrieve the lure.

Abstract: A fishing slingshot fixture adapted to receive a fishing reel and a slingshot detachably coupled thereto comprising a base plate having a forward extending guide arm with a vertically adjustable fishing line guide-eye mounted thereon. Clamping means are provided for quickly and easily clamping a fishing reel to the top of the base plate and for clamping a slingshot behind the base plate. A fisherman may propel a baited hook or fishing lure into a desired location using the slingshot. The guide eye allows a fishing line to be unreeled from and be reeled onto the reel without becoming tangled.

Abstract: A fishing rod handle which includes a combination foregrip and reel securement assembly is described wherein the foregrip is of streamlined, tubular construction and is threadedly secured to a section of the rod handle that is positioned immediately forwardly of a reel seat on the handle. The reel securement component of this assembly is, in a preferred embodiment, rotatably secure to the foregrip which is free of any awkward, outwardly extending protrusions. The reel securement component and foregrip cooperate to clampingly engage the forwardly extending flange of a reel foot of a fishing reel mounted to said rod handle in a manner by which all threads on the rod handle are at least substantially fully concealed and by which loosening of the reel securement component is effectively resisted.

Abstract: A reel seat for a fishing reel of the type having a reel foot is comprised of, a bar seat with its bottom surface shaped to conform to the contour of the fishing rod having two arched flanges at its two ends and an intermediate recessed arch surface for thread-wrapping. A hood member for receiving one end of the reel foot is integrally formed with one end of the bar seat. Toothed members are provided on the upper side of the seat for positioning a securing device which is slidably mounted on the bar seat. The securing device includes, a casing having a socket for receiving the other end of the reel foot, a pawl pivotedly mounted in the casing and normally biassed by a spring to engage the toothed members and a presser for depression to move the pawl away from the tooth members.

Abstract: An adjustable telescoping fishing rod handle comprising an adjustably mating foregrip and buttgrip. The foregrip has a substantially rectangular recess for reception of a reel foot. At the forward extremity of the recess is a rearwardly opening slot for reception of one leg of the reel foot. The other end of the foot is engaged within an annular undercut in the buttgrip. The foregrip and buttgrip are threadably mated so that upon rotating the buttgrip in a first direction relative to the foregrip, the spacing between the slot and the undercut is diminished so as to closely and positively capture the reel foot whereby the escape of either leg from the slot and undercut is prevented. Rotation of the buttgrip relative to the foregrip and oppositely of the first direction frees the foot for disassembly of the reel from the rod.

Abstract: Casting handle for a fishing rod characterized by formation of slip-proof flanges at the tip of the stem of a hold screw which, together with a hold piece, serves to fasten the reel base to the casting handle body of a fishing rod.

Abstract: The casting rod and handle assembly disclosed has greater sensitivity to a fish striking and on the fish line associated with the rod. The assembly includes a rod blank (45) extending entirely through a handle body (12) and through a hand grip (38), preferably of the offset period grip type. An upper exposed rod portion (51) in the reel seat (15) of the handle body is provided for contacting the reel and a lower exposed rod portion (52) opposite the reel seat is effective to transmit rod vibrations to the hand of a user gripping the hand grip.

Abstract: A bracket assembly for storing a fishing reel comprising a bracket and a pair of retainer clips. The bracket is formed from a single strip of metal and includes a main body portion having an arcuate transverse cross section adapted to seat the arcuate foot portion of a reel to be stored. The retainer clips also have an arcuate transverse cross section and are adapted to slide over the opposite ends of the foot portion of the reel to securely mount the reel on the bracket. The concave under portion of each clip coacts with the concave under surface of the bracket main body portion to preclude rotation of the stored reel relative to the bracket. A pair of legs extend downwardly from each end of the bracket main body portion and terminate in flange portions which coact with fastener elements to mount the bracket on a suitable support surface with the bracket main body portion spaced from the support surface.

Abstract: A fishing rod handle reel seat inside the handle has a first cavity near the front of the handle. A second cavity behind the first opens through the wall of the handle. A movable closure covers this opening. A slide portion has edge-located ribs received in guide grooves in the handle. An unribbed portion is hinged to the ribbed portion and can be pulled outward to a position transverse to the rod handle for use as a slide handle to push and pull the slide between cavity-opening and cavity-covering positions to enable the installation or removal of a reel.

Abstract: A reel mount assembly of cylindrical structure includes a cylindrical body having a stationary sleeve mounted on one end and a slidable sleeve mounted on the other end having a male thread over a certain range, and a threaded annular member adapted to mate with the male thread. The slidable sleeve is engaged with the threaded annular member in such a manner that they are rotatable with each other. At the engagement position the annular member is fitted over the slidable sleeve, and vice versa. The outer member has a rigidity sufficient to prevent its expansion, and the inner member is contractive inwardly due to its resiliency.

Abstract: A fishing rod handle assembly including an elongated handle member having an elongated groove formed in the external surface of the handle member for receiving an elongated fishing rod or rod member so that the rod member surface projects outwardly sufficiently that the hand of the fisherman holding the handle member will be in contact with the rod member. A clamp member is secured about the handle member for securing the rod member co-extensively within the groove, and also, preferably, securing a reel seat of a fishing reel directly and contiguously against the exposed surface of the rod member.

Abstract: An instant push-button fastener for fastening a fishing reel seat to the handle of a fishing rod comprises a clamping button, a coupling sleeve and a releasing button. The clamping button is depressed to insert an engaging head into the coupling sleeve. The coupling sleeve fixedly retains the engaging head, securing the fishing reel seat to the handle of the fishing rod. The releasing button is depressed to release the engaging head from the coupling sleeve, thus releasing the fishing reel seat from the handle.

Abstract: A fishing rod primarily intended to accommodate open-faced spinning reels is formed of three plastic components, namely a foregrip into which the rod blank of the rod is fitted, a reel seat on which the foot of the reel rests, and a rear grip threadedly engageable with the reel seat to trap the reel foot on the reel seat.

Abstract: A fishing rod handle and fastener for releasably securing a reel and rod to a handle. The handle is constructed and arranged to engage a mounting foot of a fishing reel when the reel is positioned on the handle. A reel retaining element is arranged to abut the foot of the reel for retaining the reel on the handle. A threaded screw engages the reel retaining element in a manner to permit only partial withdrawal of the screw from the reel retaining element preventing loss of the screw or the reel retaining element. The reel retaining element may be loosened to position the reel foot between the retainer element and the rod handle or remove the reel foot therefrom.

Abstract: The swivel mount of the present invention provides a low profile swivel for a deep trolling reel which can be permanently secured to the deck of a vessel and provides incremental rotational adjustment of the deep trolling reel mounted thereto through 360.degree. at 45.degree. intervals in the preferred embodiment. The structure compactness is made possible by the use of interengaging locking mechanism extending upwardly from a base plate to engage a plurality of angularly spaced notches communicating with the outer periphery of an annular groove in a swivel plate pivotally mounted to the base plate. The locking mechanism is spring-loaded and includes a control handle extending outwardly from the base plate to releasably lock the deep troller in a desired position.

Abstract: A storage device for fishing reels comprising an enclosure having an access opening and a first wall on which is mounted at one end a plurality of spaced supporting posts. Each of the posts is provided with two spaced reel-retaining keepers, one of these being secured and the other being movable longitudinally of the post. The post is threaded adjacent the position of the movable keeper and a nut is threaded thereon for the purpose of retaining the movable keeper against movement away from the secured keeper. The opposite ends of an elongated mounting foot of a fishing reel are engageable with the keepers in such manner that the tightening of the nut serves in securing the reel to the respective post. A door is provided on the enclosure for closing the opening thereof whereby unobstructed access to the post is available.

Abstract: A reel mounting handle having a reel foot holding member slidably disposed in a guide member extending from a reel mounting portion. The holding member is of a cross shape in cross section, the upper and lower major projections being extended out from the openings longitudinally formed in the guide member. The guide member is formed with a bore along the length thereof to slidably receive the holding member. The bore has substantially the same cross sectional shape as that of the minor projections of the movable member. The major projections are formed with threads at the peripheral end surfaces thereof, respectively to engage a sleeve rotatably disposed adjacent the reel mounting portion.

Abstract: A light weight casting rod handle, including a generally cylindrical core of a rigid plastic with a recess intermediate its ends to receive a foot of a reel. At the forward end of the recess, a generally annular hood, integral with the core, overlies and surrounds the hole through which the conventional foot clamping device extends, to strengthen an otherwise weak section. Further to strengthen the core, a length of metal channel is embedded in it to underlie the recess. A coating of a resilient foam plastic covers the core, with a plurality of lateral extensions on the core embedded therein to interlock it.

Abstract: A fishing reel leg and saddle both integrally connected to a main reel body for mounting a fishing reel on a fishing rod. The leg disposes a reinforcing member along its central axis. The reinforcing member is formed by preimpregnation of carbon fibers and/or glass fibers, both fibers being directed along the longitudinal direction of the resultant reinforcing member.

Abstract: A reel seat having a stationary socket and a movable socket is provided with a retainer separate therefrom. The retainer has a retaining leaf spring and control segment and serves to fix the movable socket in position at a seat body. An interconnecting member is inserted between the movable socket and the control segment at the retainer. The control segment is operated to hold the retainer and pushes the movable socket toward the stationary socket through the interconnecting member by use of swinging motion of the control segment, thereby holding the reel leg steadily between both sockets.

Abstract: An improved handle and reel seat for a fishing rod comprising a single grippable handle member including a forward and a butt end thereon, the body member being elongated and having a continuous, generally circular outer surface in axial cross section. An opening in this outer surface connects with a first hidden inner cavity in the body member adapted to seat the reel feet on a T-shaped fishing reel support. A second cavity and matching slide member extend from the butt end of the body member and connect with this first cavity, with a butt cap and washer adapted to compress the slide member within this second cavity to securely support and seat the reel feet within the first cavity and opening.

Abstract: Disclosed is a fishing reel seat of the type adapted to attach a fishing reel to a fishing pole and having a stationary ring and a moveable ring adapted to receive the two tangs of the fishing reel. Compound screw threads are formed around the circumference of the main body of the seat for engagement with two locking nuts with threads of opposite hand. The compound thread on the body permits the locking nuts to be tightened against each other by turning in opposite directions to insure a tight locking engagement.

Abstract: An elongated hollow tubular internally coated casting rod through which a fishing line is passed employing a novel handle for storing a magnetic line threading means and which handle cooperates to quickly attach and detach a reel mechanism to and from the rod and positions the hand of the user for optimum reel control with minimum fatigue.

Abstract: A reel seat for a fishing rod in which multiple perforations are provided in a foot of the reel seat prevents generation of frictional sound caused by incomplete adhesion of the foot to the fishing rod.

Abstract: A reel holder for fishing rods comprising inner and outer concentric tubular elements for locking the reel holder to a rod and a separate reel-locking mechanism provided on the outer tubular element. Each end of the inner tubular element is slotted and formed with a raised flange. The outer tubular element is slidably positioned between the raised flanges of the inner element and has a threaded end bearing a nut which has one end extending beyond the threaded end. The raised flanges of the inner tubular element, the opposite end of the outer tubular element and the one end of the nut are so contoured that when the reel holder is positioned on a rod and the nut is partially unscrewed, the outer tubular element and nut bear against the raised flanges to cause the opposite ends of the inner tubular element to simultaneously grip the rod.

Abstract: An eyeless fishing rod including a holder portion which may be adjusted for alignment of a fishing line guide with reels of different sizes to allow only a minimum amount of rubbing friction against the line and without exposing the line to any sharp edges that might cut the line or cause the same to bind. The reel is secured to the holder portion by an overcenter cam lock mechanism which may be adjustably positioned so that different sized reel base plates may be accommodated, either by positioning the cam mechanism in slots of different depths or by adjusting a set screw. A roller guide may be provided at the outer end of the rod portion to reduce drag or any binding which may occur when heavy loads are placed upon the fishing line. A handle extension may be attached to the holder portion for added leverage and to provide additional watertight storage space.

Abstract: An integral butt and reel seat for an offshore trolling rod is made by swaging a unitary tubular member to form a rearwardly tapering butt section, a transition section tapering forwardly from a forward end of the butt section to a decreased diameter and a cylindrical reel seat section that extends forwardly from the transition section and has a forward end thereof threaded for reception of an adjustable threaded reel hood. A second reel hood is fixed to the reel seat section and the forward end of the tubular member is sealed by means of a plug inserted deep within the reel seat section and provided with a forwardly projecting rib that aligns a rod ferrule slidably received within the forward end of the integral member. A gimbal knock is fixed to and seals the rear end of the integral member.

Abstract: A fishing rod handle assembly has a forward portion for engaging one end of a rod blank, an intermediate reel seat portion to which a reel is to be fastened and a rearward portion including a butt grip. The forward and reel seat portions are positioned along a common longitudinal axis which extends through the rod blank while the butt grip is offset therefrom.

Abstract: An integrated rod butt with rod handle and reel seat is constructed to be interchangeable with various tips by means of a ferrule for mounting the tips to the rod butt. The ferrule includes a locator cooperating with a rod butt locator for precise alignment, and provides gasket sealing of the ferrule to the rod butt. The sealing permits the use of the same lightweight aircraft alloy to be used for all components, including rod butt and ferrule.

Abstract: A fastening device for stably mounting a fishing reel to a fishing rod by the fastening action of a pair of cooperating sleeves, one fixedly and the other axially slidably mounted on a main cylindrical body which is attached to the fishing rod. The shape of a hood possessed by each sleeve is so improved as to stably and snugly fasten the foot of the reel, allowing very limited horizontal displacement of the reel.

Abstract: A lock fastener for a fishing reel which includes a first member formed with a threaded bore therein and adapted to engage the foot of a fishing reel and hold it in locked position on an associated fishing rod, a second member having a shank dimensioned to screw into the bore of the first member, the shank being recessed along a portion of its length and a lock member positioned between the first member and the recessed portion of the second member wherein the lock member prevents complete withdrawal of the second member from the first member but permits a limited amount of withdrawal so that the fishing reel may be readily removed from or locked onto the fishing rod.

Abstract: A fishing rod including an elongated, hollow, generally tapered cylindrical rod portion comprised of a plurality of blanks having their ends telescopingly connected to each other, and a holder portion to which a reel is mounted and including a universal guide for guiding fishing line from reels of different sizes into the hollow of the rod portion with a minimum amount of rubbing friction against the line and without exposing the line to any sharp edges that might cut the line or cause the same to bind. The reel is secured to the holder portion by an over-center cam lock mechanism which urges a rigid plate with resilient cover strip into tight clamping engagement with the reel base mounting plate sandwiching the latter against the resilient cover strip and a wall portion of the holder.

Abstract: This invention relates to a fishing reel for mounting on a fishing rod, said reel comprising a foot, a spool for winding the line and a support attached to said foot, an elastic return member and a control device for the spool, the paying out of the line being done by casting from one side of the spool whose axis is parallel to the fishing rod during this casting operation and in which automatic clamping of the line is effected by rotation of the spool support under the effect of the elastic force of said return member constituted notably in the form of a tension spring and which is fixed on the one hand to the spool support and on the other hand to said foot, said control device being of the lever type and clamping said spool in casting position and causing, on its actuation, the sudden pivoting through 90.degree.

Abstract: The attached disclosure is directed to a fishing rod handle assembly onto which a reel and a rod portion can be simultaneously, or individually, clamped by virtue of a combined actuating mechanism. The rod section is secured to the handle by a collet having a socket into which the butt portion of the rod section is received. The peripheral wall of the socket is selectively compressible radially inwardly against the butt portion of the rod section by a camming interaction between the collet and collet nut threadably received on the handle. A clamping pawl is pivotally attached to the rear of the collet and extends from the collet to an offset reel seat on the handle where it is adapted to embrace the toe of a reel mounting foot upon selective rotation of the collet nut. In one embodiment of the invention disclosed, the collet nut and the collet also interact to provide a positive disengagement of the clamping pawl from the reel.

Abstract: A device for removably attaching various types of commercial fishing spinning reels to conventional archery bows for use in any sport or activity where a retrievable arrow must be used connected to a line, one end of which is attached to the arrow and the other end to a reel on the bow. Both the reel and the bow may be later easily separated and used for their original purpose, but while assembled as a unit, form a system of proved economy and efficiency, for instance, in fishing with the bow either under or above salt or fresh water. The adapter device of the present invention includes three parts: (a), a first, vertical mounting bracket for attaching the device to the bow; (b) an intermediate, horizontal, transverse section; and (c) a second, horizontal mounting bracket upon which is mounted the standard fishing spinning reel through its standard foot mount.
