  • Publication number: 20140250765
Abstract: The method of attaching a bobber to a fishing line is performed by using pressure applied to two elongated flat surfaces to pinch the line, and a method to tie a knot in the line so that there is a thicker portion of the line to apply the attaching pressure. When the fish is snagged on the hook, the line tension pulls the knot apart and only a single line thickness is left between the two pressure surfaces. This allows the line to slip between the two pressure surfaces, provided the pressure surfaces do not significantly close their gap when the knot is pulled out.

Abstract: The plastic fishing cork is a bobber or float having the shape of an inverted cone. The fishing cork tapers to a point at the lower end, and has a concave upper surface for generating a “popping” noise to attract fish when a fisherman jerks the line. A ring for connecting the fishing cork to the fishing line is centered on the concave upper surface. The fishing cork has a second ring is attached on the lower point of the fishing cork for connecting to a leader holding the hook and bait. The plastic fishing cork has a hollow interior chamber that contains a plurality of rattle chambers that attract the attention of a fish.

Abstract: A linkable sinker which is particularly suitable for trolling can be used alone or linked end-to-end with similar sinkers. The sinker has an elongated weight with a weight passage and a wire member passing therethrough. The wire member terminates at a leading eye and a trailing eye; the eyes are spaced apart sufficiently that the wire member can be slid in the weight passage to remove a trailing eye leg from the weight passage to open the trailing eye, thereby allowing the leading eye of another sinker to be connected to form an articulated sinker. A resilient hood of compressible material is preferably provided, covering the leading eye. The resilient hood covers the space between adjacent weights when linked together. Preferably, the trailing eye is maintained in engagement with a trailing end of the weight to secure the leading eye of a subsequent sinker when connected to the trailing eye.

  • Patent number: 7610715
Abstract: Particular aspects provide novel strike indicators attachable to fishing lines, that are reversibly disengagable therefrom and thereafter slidably along the line. Particular embodiments comprise: a buoyant main body having an axial channel with corresponding end surface openings; an retention member seat (e.g., groove, ridge, etc.) running around the main body surface; and at least one line retention member receivable and retainable by the seat, and operative with the seat to retain a line passing therebetween at two points. The retention member is displaceable from the seat by sufficient line tension, thereby disengaging the slidable strike indicator. Particular embodiments comprise two strike indicator stop members attachable at user-selectable line positions, and operative to delimit a slidable range of a disengaged slidable strike indicator. Novel methods for fishing, with a slidable reversibly detachable indicator, at a depth greater than the length of a fishing rod are presented.

Abstract: The multi-function float/sinker of a plastic material provides either a quick attachment or removal from the fishing line 37 without the need for cutting the fishing line 37. The four-piece device has a hollow body 13 that is adapted to receive water or other material that has an overall specific gravity weight greater than one. It can serve as a float, or as a casting bubble or as a sinker. It has a water-tight snap-on cover 21 for the cavity 33 and on the opposite side of body 13 an insert 25 placed in slot 12, the two acting together form a passageway for the fishing line 37 or for the retainer 41.

Abstract: A fishing device for indicating a lure strike from fishes is disclosed. The device may be a strike indicator that may include a hollow body filled with trapped air, where the strike indicator includes a tab having an opening formed therein and a grommet made from a hard, durable material seated in the opening. Alternatively, the device may be a fishing lure that may be attachable to a fishing hook and having a hollow body filled with trapped air and an attachment mechanism for attaching the lure to the fishing leader and/or fishing line. For example, the fishing lure may be a fishing fly having a hollow body filled with trapped air. In either embodiment, the device may be made from a lightweight, resilient material, for example ethylene vinyl acetate or other similar thermoplastic material.

A horizontally and/or vertically tapered male dovetail projection is formed on the first bobber half and a horizontally and/or vertically tapered female dovetail slot is formed in the second bobber half. The tapered female dovetail slot is sized to receive the tapered male dovetail slot. The split bobber is preferably a sphere, but may have any other suitable shape, such as a cylinder. A stuffed toy eye may be attached to opposing outside surfaces of the split bobber to create a rattling sound, when floating in a body of water. A Velcro split bobber includes a first bobber half and a second bobber half. A hook fastener pad is applied to the first bobber half and a loop fastener pad is applied to the second bobber half.

  • Patent number: 7437850
Abstract: A fishing float includes a magnetic lock mechanism within the float to allow for the adjustment of a fishing line through the float to adjust the length of the fishing line through the float to select the appropriate depth of the bait or lure below the fishing float without having to reel in the bait and adjust the depth from the shore. The float, once engaged by a quick tug on the fishing line, is locked into place by a rocking magnetic lock member engaging a serrated transverse locking pin across a longitudinal line channel, capturing fishing line placed between the magnetic lock member and the locking pin, the lock member and the locking being magnetically attracted to each other. The magnetic lock member is disengaged by a quick tug on the fishing line causing a pivotal trigger to release the magnetic lock member from the locking pin allowing the fishing line to move freely through the line channel.

  • Publication number: 20080250695
Abstract: A number of stackable weights can be bundled together and secured with a lashing to form a modular sinker of a desired weight. Each stackable weight has an elongated bar bounded by four side surfaces and having a fixed eye. A link member is movably attached to the fixed eye and terminates in a coupling eye. The link member provides a degree of motion between the coupling eye and the fixed eye of the bar, allowing the coupling eyes of multiple stackable weights to be connected together to a single fastener while the bars are positioned together in a side-by-side relationship. When so connected, the link members form a pyramid-shaped coupling structure that will reduce the likelihood of snagging the resulting modular sinker. The bars preferably have textured side surfaces to frictionally engage each other to maintain the bars parallel and to retain an elastic band that provides the lashing.

  • Patent number: 7340858
Abstract: A fishing sinker is comprised of a polyhedron body having a rectangular base and triangular sides with a common blunt vertex, adapted to generate a net upward lifting force during forward motion. The streamlined shape of the sinker also makes it more aerodynamic during casting and minimizes splashing during entry into water. A central channel is formed in the body for receiving an eyelet pin with a swaged end, a straight section extending through said central channel and an integrally formed eyelet portion protruding from the blunt vertex. A plurality of symmetrically arranged stabilizer fins extending along angles of intersection of each adjacent triangular side. The eyelet portion is a resilient eyelet with a slip-on opening biased into a closed position. The vertex makes the sinker quite aerodynamic, as it leads the way on casts through the air and into the water.
