Publication number: 20120011763Abstract: A fishing sinker assembly is provided including a weighted body and an elongated insert. The weighted body includes a throughbore defining a cavity extending between two openings. The elongated insert extends through the cavity and includes a proximal end, a distal end, and a middle portion. The proximal end includes a connecting means for connecting the fishing sinker to a fishing line. The distal end is larger than the size of at least one of the openings, wherein the distal end prevents the body from being slidably removed over the distal end. The middle potion includes a breakaway segment positioned within the cavity. The breakaway segment has a tensile strength less than that of the proximal end, distal end and fishing line attached to the proximal end such that added tension will cause the breakaway segment to selectively break prior to breaking of the proximal end, distal end or fishing line.Type: ApplicationFiled: July 15, 2010Publication date: January 19, 2012Inventor: Chi Huynh

Patent number: 8037636Abstract: A bottom snagging sinker kit includes a retaining ring, a series of anchor wires and a nose. Rather than manufacture a wide range of specially designed sinkers having weights of different size, a bottom snagging sinker is assembled from the kit by using a standard sinker weight of the type having a passage therethrough. A fisherman or other person may assemble the sinker by connecting the retaining ring to the sinker weight with a connector, such as a cotter pin. The anchor wires are assembled to the nose or between the nose and the retaining ring. The nose is then attached to the retaining ring. When the sinker is cast into water, the sinker descends to the bottom where the anchor wires are aimed generally at the fisherman to minimize movement of the sinker. When the fisherman pulls on the fishing line, the anchor wires deflect to a position allowing easy retrieval of the sinker.Type: GrantFiled: June 3, 2009Date of Patent: October 18, 2011Inventor: Nicholas C. Meyer

Publication number: 20100083560Abstract: A snag-proof multi-purpose fishing weight apparatus combined with fish hook and a fish attractant/fish feeding stimulant delivery system generally comprises a slender tubular hollow shaft with small holes along its length which can be filled with fish attractant/feeding stimulant and then seep or ooze out of the small holes along the shaft into the surrounding water. The shaft has attached to it on one end (top) a flotation device and a flexible wire to which is attached a fish hook and main fishing line. The other end of the shaft (bottom), has a weight of the same diameter as the shaft and attached to it and extending from it on the same plane creating a smooth extension of the shaft. This configuration, underwater will naturally orient the apparatus in the upright vertical position with the float end and fish hook on top and the weighted end resting on bottom, while positioning the baited hook outward and away from shaft in view of foraging fish.Type: ApplicationFiled: October 8, 2008Publication date: April 8, 2010Inventor: C Walter W. Patent number: 7621070Abstract: A line shield has a tube that can be secured with respect to a sinker to guide the sinker over submerged obstructions. The tube has a tube passage, through which a line attached to the sinker passes, and terminates at a tube leading end and a tube trailing end. The tube is preferably secured to the sinker by a resilient hood having a hood passage sized to frictionally fit over the tube trailing end, and to frictionally fit over an eye of the sinker or a connecting element attached thereto, such as a snap. The frictional engagement of the resilient hood with the eye and the tube trailing end maintains the tube in close proximity to the sinker or connecting element. In use, the tube leading end is raised so that the tube acts as a ramp-shaped deflector to guide the sinker over obstructions.Type: GrantFiled: July 26, 2007Date of Patent: November 24, 2009Inventor: Bernard P. Brasseur

Patent number: 7621071Abstract: A linkable sinker which is particularly suitable for trolling can be used alone or linked end-to-end with similar sinkers. The sinker has an elongated weight with a weight passage and a wire member passing therethrough. The wire member terminates at a leading eye and a trailing eye; the eyes are spaced apart sufficiently that the wire member can be slid in the weight passage to remove a trailing eye leg from the weight passage to open the trailing eye, thereby allowing the leading eye of another sinker to be connected to form an articulated sinker. A resilient hood of compressible material is preferably provided, covering the leading eye. The resilient hood covers the space between adjacent weights when linked together. Preferably, the trailing eye is maintained in engagement with a trailing end of the weight to secure the leading eye of a subsequent sinker when connected to the trailing eye.Type: GrantFiled: July 26, 2007Date of Patent: November 24, 2009Inventor: Bernard P. Brasseur

Patent number: 7621072Abstract: A number of stackable weights can be bundled together and secured with a lashing to form a modular sinker of a desired weight. Each stackable weight has an elongated bar bounded by four side surfaces and having a fixed eye. A link member is movably attached to the fixed eye and terminates in a coupling eye. The link member provides a degree of motion between the coupling eye and the fixed eye of the bar, allowing the coupling eyes of multiple stackable weights to be connected together to a single fastener while the bars are positioned together in a side-by-side relationship. When so connected, the link members form a pyramid-shaped coupling structure that will reduce the likelihood of snagging the resulting modular sinker. The bars preferably have textured side surfaces to frictionally engage each other to maintain the bars parallel and to retain an elastic band that provides the lashing.Type: GrantFiled: July 26, 2007Date of Patent: November 24, 2009Inventor: Bernard P. Brasseur
