    Abstract: A silver halide photgraphic light-sensitive material is disclosed. The light-sensitive material is comprisesa support,a silver halide emulsion layer provided on a surface of said support,an antistatic layer comprising a water-soluble conductive polymer, hydrophobic polymer particles and an epoxy curing agent, which is provided on the surface of said support opposite to the surface on which said emulsion layer is provided, anda hydrophilic colloid layer adjacently provided on said antistatic layer which contains a dye represented by the following Formula I: ##STR1## wherein Qs are independently an aliphatic group or an aromatic group; R is a hydrogen atom, an aliphatic group or an aromatic group; Ms are independently a cation; L is a methine group; n is an integer of 0, 1 or 2; and p is an integer of 1 or 2. The photographic material is improved in antistatic property and inhibited in the color remaining after processing.

This element, which is particularly useful for the application of subsequently applied photosensitive layers on side opposite said auxiliary layer, comprises gelatin, a crosslinking agent, optionally a conductive polymer and an adhesion promoting amount of an adhesion agent, said adhesion agent selected from the group consisting of: compounds containing at least one --NH.sub.2 group and compounds containing at least two --NH groups, wherein said adhesion agent is sufficiently soluble in water that said adhesion promoting amount of adhesion agent may be dissolved in the dispersion used to coat said auxiliary layer, with the proviso that said adhesion agent is not malonamide. Preferred adhesion agents are urea, thiourea and 2-imidazolidone. Improved adhesion of the auxiliary layer to the antistatic layer is achieved.

The element exhibits excellent antistatic and antihalation properties as well as low dye stain and improved dimensional stability, compared to elements wherein the antihalation dyes are coated in a separate layer. These products are especially useful as so-called "bright-light films" that are designed for contact printing and the like.

    Abstract: An improved process for the preparation of backing layers with improved coating qualities is described. These layers are designed to transmit antistatic properties from antistatic layers coated under the backing layers and provide antihalation or anticurl effects in addition thereto. The process of this invention includes in-line addition of a pre-stabilized crosslinking solution to a gelatino-conductive polymer solution just prior to the coating thereof. Smooth, skip-free coatings are obtained and the solutions are stable and can be maintained for long periods of time.
