  • Publication number: 20140087316
Abstract: A plurality of independently flow rate-controlled flows of fuel may be preheated at a heat exchanger (or both oxidant and fuel at separate heat exchangers) by heat exchange with a hot shell-side (heat transfer) fluid. The separate flows of hot fuel are directed to associated separate burners where they combust with flows of fuel to produce hot combustion gases. The hot combustion gases are used to preheat the hot shell-side fluid at a recuperator or regenerator.

  • Patent number: 8083517
Abstract: A method of firing a burner into a furnace process chamber supplies the burner with fuel and combustion air at a ratio that provides a level of excess air. The method includes the steps of reducing the flow rate of combustion air, and maintaining the level of excess air when the flow rate of combustion air is being reduced. Other steps include withdrawing exhaust gas from the process chamber, and supplying the burner with the exhaust gas at an increasing flow rate when the flow rate of combustion air is being reduced.

  • Patent number: 7762807
Abstract: A single-ended, internally recuperated, radiant tube annulus system in which at least part of the heat recovery takes place within the furnace to which the system is attached and in which the oxidant and/or fuel are preheated not only by heat transfer from the exhaust gases, but also directly from the combustion process. The system includes a plurality of concentric radiant tubular members arranged in a manner providing an outer annular region in which the combustion process is carried out, an inner tubular member through which exhaust gases are exhausted from the system, and intermediate annular regions between the inner tubular member and the outer annular region through which preheated oxidant is provided to the outer annular region for the combustion process. In accordance with one embodiment of this invention, the internal recuperator is used as a fuel reformer.

  • Publication number: 20100154779
Abstract: Gas fire devices are provided that produce a swirling flame by passive means using the kinetic energy of gas exiting through burner ports located in a burner and the kinetic energy of air drawn through louvers or flaps radially positioned on the base of a plenum. Situated above the burner and plenum is a chimney, which surrounds the flame and may be a translucent or transparent material to help observers better see the flame.

  • Patent number: 5944510
Abstract: A fluid injector for use with a burner having at least a pair of concentric tubes which conduct at least two different fluids via inner and outer passageways to a discharge tip. The passageways having different linear fluid velocity rates which causes the issuing discharge flow of the fluids to constrict causing mixing and combining of the fluids for introducing to a combustion chamber. Protection of the injector from thermal melting or burning is provided by location of the injector within the coils of a feed preheater constituting a heat exchanger.

  • Patent number: 5437123
Abstract: Injectors are disclosed for use in an underoxidized burner having a single or double stage internal combustion chamber for receiving gaseous or liquid fuel such as diesel for mixture with air or oxygen and subsequent ignition by a spark plug. The injector includes feed conduits or tubes for simultaneously conducting air and fuel to a mixing device having a baffle arrangement against which separately injected air and fuel impinge causing a complete air/fuel blending which is ignited, burned and exhausted. The injector may accept effluent gases for mixing with water to produce maximum hydrogen H.sub.2 from fuels. A lamina flow is produced which is folded over and reversed in direction within the combustion chamber.

  • Patent number: 4784599
Abstract: Improved combustion of liquid fuel is achieved with a porous fiber burner by forming a mixture of the vaporized fuel and all of the desired combustion air sufficiently heated to prevent condensation of the vaporized fuel, and introducing the heated mixture into the porous fiber burner to effect flameless combustion on the outer surface of the burner. The resulting surface combustion produces a high proportions of radiant heat and increased thermal efficiency while suppressing the formation of nitrogen oxides and other pollutants in the flue gas. Periodically, fuel gas may be supplied to the same porous fiber burner.

  • Patent number: 4305705
Abstract: Apparatus for igniting a main gas mixture to be burnt in a combustion chamber includes conduit systems for separately feeding an oxygen-bearing gas and a combustible gas into an ignition region. At least a part of at least one of the conduit systems is formed as an electrical heating resistance thereby to raise the temperature of the gas component flowing therein so that when the components are mixed in the ignition region, ignition of the ignition gas mixture will occur, thereby igniting the main gas mixture. The apparatus also includes means for detecting the temperature of the heated gas component or components flowing through the conduit systems, and/or the temperature of the gas mixture ignited in the ignition region.
