  • Patent number: 6589045
Abstract: A piezoelectric jet lighter is adapted for producing both jet flame and visible in order to selectively light a cigarette, a cigar, and a pipe. The piezoelectric jet lighter includes a gas ejecting pipe having a gas releasable valve connected to a jet nozzle for producing the jet flame and two gas emitting nozzles for producing the visible flames respectively. To operate the piezoelectric lighter, a downward force must be applied on an ignition button to ignite the lighter wherein the gas is emitted from the gas ejecting pipe to the jet flame to produce the jet flame. While the downward force is released, the gas releasable valve is automatically switched for allowing gas transported to the gas emitting nozzles to produce the visible flame.

  • Patent number: 6210152
Abstract: In a burner for operating a combustor, the former consists essentially of a rotation generator (100), a transition piece following the rotation generator, and a mixing pipe following this transition piece. Transition piece and mixing pipe form the mixing section (220) of the burner and are located upstream from a combustion chamber (30). In the lower part of the mixing pipe is located a pilot burner system (300) which creates, among other things, a stabilization of the flame front, in particular in the transient load ranges, while minimizing pollutant emissions. A sensor (400) installed in the burner detects a flashback of the flame (80), whereupon the fuel quantity of this flame is at least temporarily reduced and at the same time the fuel quantity for the pilot burner is increased in such a way that the total fuel quantity and thus the turbine output remains constant. This measure prevents a destruction of the burner.

  • Patent number: 4381913
Abstract: A porous ceramic heating reactor is positioned within a tubular casing to contain the flame and the end products of combustion. A flattened portion of the casing extends substantially past the reactor to provide for further transfer of heat through the casing wall from the hot exhaust gases and to carry those exhaust gases to a safe point of exhaustion. The unit is essentially modular so that any number can be selected for an installation. The casing configuration enhances turbulent flow of the hot gaseous products of combustion. Turbulent flow increases heat transfer to and through the walls of the casing to the boiler or other area to be heated. The size and shape of the tubular casing provides an explosion proof, leak proof, efficient heat transfer device. Each reactor has a spark plug one of whose elements is a bi-metallic strip. In a multi-unit installation the spark plugs are connected in parallel across a spark generator.

  • Patent number: 4288978
Abstract: Disclosed is an improved vapor generator of the kind in which a fuel-air mixture is combusted in a chamber through which water is flowed. The water acts as a coolant for the unit and is vaporized or converted to steam in the chamber in the presence of the flame. The steam formed from the feed water, the steam formed as a product of combustion, and the non-condensibles remaining after combustion issue from the chamber as a hot mixture suitable for a variety of uses, such as process steam, comfort-heating steam, and the like. The improvements include means for dividing the air feed into two parts, and means for forming a well-mixed stoichiometric mixture of fuel and the air of one part, which mixture is ignited and burned in a prechamber surrounded by and cooled by the air of the other part. The second part of the air is fed into the midregion of the soformed flame in the main chamber to lean it out and insure completeness of combustion, reducing production of carbon monoxide to extremely low levels.

  • Patent number: 4025282
Abstract: Apparatus to burn liquid fuels in a gaseous fuel burner, which includes preparatory apparatus for the atomization of liquid fuel oil preferably by steam, and the heating of the fuel droplets and steam so as to completely vaporize the liquid fuel. If atomization is by other means, steam is added prior to vaporization heating. The resulting oil vapor-steam mixture then goes to a burner which utilizes the central orifice of a conventional gas burner, plus an annular orifice concentric with the gas orifice, through which steam is supplied. Primary air is induced into the burner tube due to the high velocity jets of steam and of oil vapor-steam. The steam protects the hot vapor from the air until the combination issues from the end of the burner tube. For the use of gaseous fuel, the same burner is utilized except that the steam flow is turned off since the steam is not needed for the induction of the primary air, due to the higher velocity of the jets of gas.
