Rack And Pinion Patents (Class 431/307)
  • Patent number: 5456595
Abstract: A safety device for preventing uncontrolled burning in wick-fed liquid fuel burners employs an excess fuel containment compartment (24) which receives any excess fuel which might be fed to the fuel supply chamber (40). The excess fuel causes a receptacle (20) in the compartment to move downward. Through a retaining arm (82) and actuating arm (78), such movement communicates with a removable tank lift mechanism in response to the excess fuel condition. Also the mechanism prevents re-insertion of the removable tank (60) to its proper seating position until the danger of flareup is removed. This safety device also alerts the user of the liquid fuel burner to a dangerous condition by a mechanism comprising a highly visible warning gauge needle (34). In addition, the burner can be readily serviced and restored to operation should an excess fuel malfunction occur.

Abstract: A safety device for preventing uncontrolled burning in wick-fed liquid fuel burners employs an excess fuel containment compartment (24) which receives any excess fuel which might be fed from a removable tank (60) through a spring-loaded valve in the removable tank cap (61) into fuel supply chamber (40). The excess fuel causes a receptacle (20) in the compartment to move downward. Through a retaining arm (82) and lever (66) such movement activates a pin-drop mechanism. Activation of the pin-drop mechanism closes off the valve in the removable tank cap. Also the mechanism prevents re-opening of the fuel tank valve until the danger of flareup is removed. This safety device also alerts the user of the liquid fuel burner to a dangerous condition by a mechanism comprising a warning gauge needle (34). In addition, the burner can be readily serviced and restored to operation should an excess fuel malfunction occur.

  • Patent number: 4805589
Abstract: A fire-extinguishing device for an oil burner capable of preventing a wind blowing against the oil burner from adversely affecting combustion operation of the oil burner through the fire-extinguishing device to ensure safe combustion operation. The device includes a valve for operating an aperture through which an air chamber communicated through a wick receiving chamber to a combustion cylinder construction is communicated to an oil reservoir communicated to an ambient atmosphere. The valve is actuated to open and close the aperture when a wick is at a wick raised position and a wick lowered position, so that air may be supplied from the ambient atmosphere through the space of the oil reservoir, air chamber and wick receiving chamber to the combustion cylinder construction for combustion during combustion operation.

  • Patent number: 4790745
Abstract: An automatic fire-extinguishing device for an oil burner capable of being manufactured with a low cost, compacted in construction and actuated with high accuracy. In the device, a gear which is loosely fitted on a wick actuating shaft and has a return spring loosely fitted on the shaft and fixed between the gear and a burner body is formed with a cutout about a portion thereof opposite to a stopper engaged with the gear when the gear is at a wick raising position. At the cutout is arranged a stop gear so as to be engaged with the stopper at the wick raising position, which is formed of a material having a friction coefficient smaller than that of the gear.

  • Patent number: 4726762
Abstract: A wick actuating device of the lever actuation type for an oil burner is disclosed which is capable of not only vertically moving a wick but variably setting the ignition position of the wick as desired. The wick actuating device includes an operation lever loosely fitted on a wick operating shaft, a shaft actuation lever fixedly fitted on the shaft and a connection mechanism for connecting both levers to each other. The connection mechanism includes a slit formed at the operation lever and a pin slidably mounted on the shaft actuation lever and movably fitted in the slit. The slit is formed to be oblique with respect to the sliding direction of the pin so that the operation lever is engaged with the shaft actuation lever through the slit and pin at an angle which is varied depending upon the position of the pin in the slit.

  • Patent number: 4608010
Abstract: A device for adjusting the vertical position of a wick for an oil burner is disclosed which is capable of effectively and positively keeps the combustion position of the wick within a range of constantly attaining the normal combustion of the oil burner. The wick adjusting device includes a circular member fitted on a wick operating shaft and received in a slidable knob to be moved with the knob. The circular member is formed with a slot in which a pin-like projection of a gear is movably fitted and with which the projection is engaged at the minimum combustion position to prevent the knob from being further rotated in the fire-extinguishing direction during the combustion operation.

  • Patent number: 4458664
Abstract: An improved oil stove of the type including a cylindrical burning wick adapted to be raised up or lowered as required by actuating a wick control handle is disclosed which includes a stopper slidably secured to the wick control handle and a stopper engagement member to which the stopper comes in engagement as the wick control handle is rotated. The stopper comprises a base plate, an engagement projection and a depress button adapted to be depressed by an operator's finger. The engagement projection is extended from the base plate to the position where it is engaged to the stopper engagement member at its upright bent portion of which upper end face is tapered. As the wick control handle is rotated in such a direction as to lower the wick, the bent portion of the engagement projection abuts against the stopper engagement member and thereby the wick control handle fails to be rotated further.
