Flame Holder Having Attached Handle Patents (Class 431/345)
  • Patent number: 5135390
Abstract: A portable, flambeau torch utilizing liquid propane gas, butane, or the like fuel in contrast to the fluid kerosene or "white gas" of traditional flambeau devices. A backpack support (1) for the user or operator holds the gas containment tank (6) and first regulator stage (10). A torch frame (18-19/20-22) carrying a multiple number of burners (23a-d) is connected to the tank by means of a quick disconnect (12) hose (11) and an internal passageway formed by the hollow, closed ended, tubular members making up the torch frame. A hand manipulated, quick release, kill switch (14) is held down by the operator to allow the gas to continuously flow to the burners during use (see FIG. 3). Concentric cylindrical members (23 and 25 ) form combustion chambers (32) for the burners.

  • Patent number: 4923394
Abstract: A portable torch including: a gas tank containing therein a combustible gas and another gas tank containing therein a combustion supporting gas; a plurality of pressure regulating mechanisms, in which the primary pressure sides are connected to said gas tanks through plug opening mechanisms, respectively; and a torch portion is connected to the secondary pressure sides of the pressure regulating mechanisms through flexible gas feeding tubes, respectively, provided at the forward end thereof with a jet and having no gas flow rate regulating function. The pressure regulating mechanisms regulate the secondary pressure and gas flow rate from the jet through the secondary pressure. Check valves for blocking the flow of gas from the torch portion to the pressure regulating mechanisms is interposed between the respective pressure regulating mechanisms and the torch portion, to thereby prevent backfire of the flame of the jet.

At the forward end portion there is a holder for releasably retaining a cigarette lighter of the throwaway gas or butane type having a conventional flint wheel and a gas valve actuator. An actuator rod is guided for reciprocable sliding movement along the shank. The rod is urged forward along the shank by a biasing spring and may be pulled backward against the spring by a trigger adjacent the handgrip. An integral outer extension of the rod, forward of the holder, is movable between extended and retracted positions by the biasing spring and the trigger, respectively. An elastic friction member, consisting of a backwardly extending, cantileverly supported, diagonally oriented coil spring is mounted on the outer extension and is movable backward by the trigger to engage and rotate the flint wheel and depress the valve actuator.
