    Abstract: A heat treatment apparatus and control method enabling the apparatus to settle down the internal temperature of a treating vessel to a target temperature accurately and quickly. The apparatus includes a furnace body with a heater on an inner circumferential surface thereof, a treating vessel disposed inside the furnace body, a cooling medium supply blower and cooling medium release blower connected to the furnace body, and a temperature sensor provided inside the treating vessel. A signal from the temperature sensor is sent to a heater output computing unit of a controller. The computing unit determines a heater output level to be obtained during temperature regulation with the heater only, the heater output level being based on a preset temperature that has been determined by a temperature determining unit and temperature detected by the temperature sensor. A blower output computing unit activates blower output based on the heater output level.

    Abstract: Preforms are thermally treated in a continuous-run oven equipped with infrared lamps. The portions of the oven exposed to infrared radiation are cooled by an air flow, whose temperature is kept constant by mixing air at ambient temperature with hot air. The latter is obtained by recycling at least part of the cooling air flow, which becomes heated as it carries away excess heat. A recycling mechanism in the form of a plenum box 13 equipped with a pivotable shutter 16 for adjusting the proportions of recycled hot air and ambient temperature air makes it possible to keep the temperature of the cooling air constant.

    Abstract: A heat-treating apparatus for practicing a method in which when red-hot iron pipes produced by a centrifugal casting machine are cooled, the pipes are slowly cooled over the temperature range of 800.degree. to 700.degree. C. to ferritize the pipes without separately annealing the pipes. A heat-treating furnace disposed close to one end of the rotary mold of the casting machine has furnace chambers each provided with pairs of rotatable rollers for supporting the pipe in rotation to prevent the deformation of the pipe. Each of the chambers has heating burners or a cooling heat exchanger for adjusting the temperature and cooling speed of the pipe placed in the chamber. According to a preferred embodiment, the furnace chambers are separated by openable partition members of circular-arc section, and each of the chambers has turnable levers for transferring the pipe to another chamber adjacent thereto.

    Abstract: A method and apparatus for removing combustible material from metal scrap. The apparatus includes an inclined rotating retort, and scrap metal containing combustible material is fed into one end of the retort and as the scrap moves through the retort the combustible material is burned from the scrap. The retort is spaced within an outer refractory housing to provide an annular chamber therebetween, and the chamber is divided into two or more zones. Located within each zone is a fuel burner and a cooling air inlet. The temperature is sensed in each zone, and if the temperature falls below a preset minimum, the burner in that zone is operated, while if the temperature in the zone exceeds a pre-set maximum, cooling air is supplied to that zone to thereby maintain the temperature of the scrap metal within predetermined limits.

    Abstract: An apparatus for making a fabricless surface covering from particles of synthetic resin utilizes an oven assembly having a plurality of heating units which are automatically and/or manually adjustable for establishing and maintaining a preselected across the several successive heating zones progressively increasing temperature within the oven assembly. The particles of synthetic resin are deposited from a hopper onto a conveyer means which transports them through a leveler assembly and a compactor before reaching the oven assembly. After being fused by the application thereto of heat as it passes through an oven assembly, the synthetic resin is fed through an embossing unit, around a cooling drum and to a trimmer. Then after being trimmed, the fused synthetic resin passes through a coater assembly which applies a coating to a fused resin before the latter leaves the apparatus.
