Abstract: An apparatus and method is disclosed for continuously sintering a web of multiple layers of media material with a sintering furnace. In a preferred form of the invention, a plurality of web media materials are interposed between refractory materials and are simultaneously sintered in the sintering furnace. Following sintering the plurality of web media materials are separated from the refractory materials and the web media materials are independently rolled onto a plurality of output rollers. A tension device applies a tension acting upon opposed ends of the refractory materials for maintaining a constant tension therebetween for maintaining a constant force on the upper and lower surfaces of the plurality of media materials.

  • Patent number: 6514072
Abstract: This invention is for a novel method of treating carbon fiber. Carbon fiber is a very unique material and its processing requires high temperatures. Also since carbon fibers are lightweight and porous, heating is accomplished in this process by radiation with a heated gas flowing through the material. Also a float is used to transfer the material from one process station to another so as to prevent delaminating of the carbon fiber.

Abstract: In an apparatus for heat treating a material web that enters and exits the apparatus through respective gaps, an air cushion generating unit includes a slot nozzle through which a ventilator blows a laminar flow of air, which then flows laminarly along a convexly curved surface of the unit, to form a laminar air cushion which flows directly along the material web through one of the gaps, then expands outside of this gap, and is sucked back into the air cushion generating unit and recirculated through the slot nozzle. The laminar air cushion steadily holds and supports the material web so that the mechanical gap size can be reduced while reducing losses of hot process air and still avoiding physical contact with the material web.

  • Patent number: 5831248
Abstract: A heat-controlling device is provided with a transporting carriage for supporting and transporting a semiconductor substrate and a heating device having a plurality of heaters which apply heat in the width-wise direction of the heat-receiving member that is perpendicular to the transporting direction thereof and which are individually controlled by a controller. The controller only operates a set of the heaters that are adjacent the semiconductor substrate. Among the heaters being operated, those heaters, which are located at at least the leading end and the rear end in the transporting direction, have their outputs successively varied in accordance with the movement of the semiconductor substrate. Thus, it becomes possible to easily narrow the temperature distribution of the semiconductor substrate merely by controlling the output of the heaters.

  • Patent number: 5699101
Abstract: A cooling article includes a plate positioned adjacent the exit of a thermal processor. The plate has a surface for receiving a sheet of thermally-processed material such that the sheet of thermally-processed material moves along the surface. A first region of the surface of the plate adjacent the exit of the thermal processor includes a thermally insulative material, whereas a second region of the surface of the plate on a side of the first region opposite the exit of the thermal processor includes a thermally conductive material. The sheet of thermally-processed material contacts the thermally insulative material during movement in the first region, and contacts the thermally conductive material during movement in the second region. The thermally insulative material prevents excessive heating of the first region of the cooling plate by leading portions of the sheet of thermally-processed material.

  • Patent number: 5683240
Abstract: A method and apparatus for heating a product which includes a plurality of tapered ducts in a cabinet above and below a conveyor to form streams which are directed toward the product. Spent air is drawn through return ducts which have intake openings centered between entrance and exit openings in the cabinet and centered between lateral edges of a conveyor and between the tapered ducts to provide a balanced flow of spent air in the cabinet to the return opening. Temperature controlled gas is delivered at an angle through an array of openings adjacent opposite edges of an opening through which a conveyor extends to cause most of the heated air to be drawn to the return duct opening and to maintain internal pressure in the cabinet to prevent ingress and egress of air through the opening.

Abstract: Knurling is applied to both side edge portions of a high-molecular film and then the film is wound up. A packing agent is applied to the knurled portions to enclose air at the time of winding in spaces between wound film layers and the film is put into an annealing isothermal chamber while contact between the wound film layers is prevented by the air. Preferably, the high-molecular film is made to pass through a heating zone just before the winding so that the high-molecular film after heated is wound up. More preferably, the winding core used for winding is a hollow porous winding core and high-temperature pressurized air is blown out onto the film through the hollow porous cylindrical surface.

  • Patent number: 5588828
Abstract: A vertical bright-annealing furnace 1 for metal strips includes a muffle-type heating station 12, a refractory-type heating station 13. The refractory-type heating station 13 includes a shell 24 lined with a heat-insulating material 26 and a second heater 27. These two stations 12 and 13 are connected to one another by a flexible connecting unit 14 which is extensible in the longitudinal direction of the heating zone. A metal strip S conveyed in the furnace 1 is heated in the muffle-type heating station 12 and subsequently heated in the refractory-type heating station 13 up to a predetermined temperature, for example, about 1,100.degree. C. According to this constitution, a large-sized vertical annealing furnace may be constructed. Also, the period of durability of the muffle may be extended, the running expenses may be decreased, and metal strip having good brightness may be produced.

Abstract: This invention discloses a furnace in which hot gases are discharged from heaters to provide uniform heating to printed circuit boards commonly used in the electronic industry. Outside air is prevented from flowing into the furnace, so as to reduce and to stabilize the concentration of oxygen. The furnace 1 is designed with an air tunnel 2 to separate it into upper and lower sections which are fitted with hot air blow type heaters 5a, 5b. The hot air discharged from the heaters in the upper and lower sections flow in opposite directions to create a counter-flow of gases. Each individual heater can produce its own hot air circuit. They are designed with the blowing outlet and suction inlet in the same structure with the blowing outlet fitted with a redirectional flow plate 18 which directs the hot air to the suction inlet.
