Abstract: A dental unit comprises at least one chair, a base, positioned next to the chair and mounting a handpiece tray. The tray is equipped with a plurality of operative or auxiliary handpieces for dental operations of traditional conservative type and/or for implants. At least one of the handpieces is fitted with a drive unit consisting of a brushless micromotor presenting a unit for continuously controlling the speed of the brushless micromotor according to parameters that depend on the type of application, that is, traditional, conservative type operations or implants.

Abstract: A dental instrument support mechanism for establishing stable support for dental instruments such as a dental cutting tool, a drill, a fiber scope and the like. The dental instrument support mechanism is formed with a base portion, and a support arm connected to the base portion at one end for holding a dental instrument at another end. The dental instrument held by the support arm is fixedly maintained a positional relationship with a dental object in an oral cavity of a patient. The dental instrument support mechanism is attached to one of a head, face, jaw, tooth of the patient or a treatment bed.

Abstract: This invention is directed to a whip arm mounting (26) of the European style whip arms on the control head (10) of a dental delivery system, where multiple whip arms (26) are automatically centered and returned to the center rest or storage position without touching the control head cover (12), or the bottom pan (11), and are movable from side to side while carried in a single mounting bracket (50) in the control head.

Abstract: A mechanical support for holding a dental medical instrument includes multiple segments which are mounted to one another to provide six degrees of freedom of motion for an instrument supported at one end of the support arm. At each juncture or joint between segments, a positioning encoder provides an electrical signal which indicates the motion of one of the segments relative to the adjacent segment. The combined encoder outputs provides information concerning all six degrees of freedom of motion and thus provides a signal which tracks with the motion of the operating instrument. A slave probe coupled to the operating end of the instrument provides a technique of either commanding the positioning of the instrument or, alternatively, tracking with the position of the instrument. The slave probe thus executes a three dimensional contour that is the same as the three dimensional surface traced by the instrument.

Abstract: The present invention is directed to a device for storing a dental handpiece, which has a supply hose connected to one end which supply hose hangs freely in a loop-like fashion below the stored handpiece when the handpiece is in a stored position. The device uses a guidance roller and either a U-shaped element or a second roller to guide the hose during movement of the handpiece from a stored position to an extended position and either the second roller or U-shaped element coact with the first roller to form a socket for receiving the handpiece and providing a first or upper storage position. The device can also include a second U-shaped member which receives the handpiece and holds it in a second storage position.

Abstract: An improved dental handpiece holder supports a handpiece in the region from the rear end of the grip portion to the tail-stock portion. A front gripping holder portion prevents movement in the horizontal direction, a rear gripping holder portion prevents a forward tipping moving, and the front and rear gripping portions co-act to prevent movement of the handpiece in the axial direction. The front gripping portion is provided with three separate portions, one on the left hand wall and two on its right hand wall. The two supporting portions on the right hand wall are spaced axially apart from one another, and the single supporting portion on the left hand wall is located in a axial position intermediate that of the opposing two portions. Right and left supporting portions in the rear gripping portion support the tail-stock of the handpiece.
