  • Publication number: 20130224683
Abstract: A dental drill is disclosed which allows for an osteotomy to be formed in a shape which closely matches the cylindrical shape of many dental implants. In so doing, the implant engages more tissue of the resulting osteotomy, thus resulting in greater ability for the tissue to penetrate and fuse with the implant while also reducing the chances of infection and reducing the overall recovery time. In addition, by forming the dental drill with a relatively obtuse angulation between the termini of the drill flutes, the cutting forces are spread across a larger cutting area thus reducing wear on the drill itself. Moreover, by spreading the cutting force over a larger area, the heat generated by the drill is reduced and thus the discomfort afforded to the patient is reduced.

An osteotome (22) having a tapered working end (28) is inserted into the initial osteotomy (42). The initial osteotomy (42) is enlarged by simultaneously rotating and pushing the working end (28) of the tapered osteotome (22) into the osteotomy (42). • Patent number: 8215958
Abstract: The invention is a dental irrigator for delivering irrigant solution from an irrigation solution reservoir to the site of a dental procedure. The irrigator comprises: a hollow dental tool modified by the addition of one or more curved blades either formed directly on the neck of the tool or on a sleeve attached coaxially to the neck, one or more inlets associated with each of the curved blades, a housing that provides a watertight volume surrounding the inlets while allowing the tool to be freely moved with respect to the housing, and a supply hose, which conducts the irrigant solution at relatively low pressure from the reservoir to the housing. When the dental tool is attached to the distal end of a dental hand-piece and the hand-piece is activated causing the tool to move, irrigation solution enters the hollow interior of the neck of the tool and, as a result of the forces created by the motion of the curved blades, is delivered at relatively high pressure to the site.

Arranged behind the first portion there is a second portion which is provided with one or more second cutting edges and with a second diameter exceeding the first width or diameter. The first portion can cooperate with soft tissues to form an initial hole, and the second portion can cooperate with the soft tissue and the more solid bone in order to enlarge said hole and create a countersunk hole in the more solid bone. The first portion is also depicted to cooperate with the more solid bone, during the second portion's formation of the countersunk hole, in order to provide a guidance hole or marker hole in the bottom of the countersink.

Abstract: Endodontic instruments having a desired cutting edge are formed, at least in part, using a cold forming process. The method of forming the endodontic instrument includes providing a blank metal thread or wire and at least one die that has a negative impression of a cutting edge. The die is pressed against the blank with sufficient force in order for the die to form an at least partially formed cutting edge in the blank. Any desired shape can be formed into the blank by selecting a die with the proper corresponding negative impression. Cold forming techniques suitable for forming endodontic instruments include roll forming, flat rolling, radial forming, cold drawing, and similar techniques. The files can be sharpened or otherwise modified before or after cold-forming using techniques such as cutting, grinding, and chemical milling.

Abstract: Implant removal tool (1) which allows removing an implant (5) from a patient's bone (6). The implant removal tool (1) comprises a head (2), to which a torque-providing system is attached, and a threaded body (4) preferably with a decreasing diameter. The threaded body (4) preferably has a thread to the left and is intended to be threaded into the hole (7) of the implant (5). The extraction of the implant (5) is relatively simple to carry out, removing the implant (5) in an almost clean manner and leaving a very small cavity (13) in the patient's bone (6). Therefore, the implant removal tool (1) according to the invention makes the removal of an implant (5) a far less traumatic procedure for the patient.

Abstract: A device is operatively associated with a drill used in connection with forming a hole in which a dental implant is to be installed. The device is made in multiple sizes suitable for accommodating differences in spacing between existing teeth between which one or more new prosthetic teeth are to be installed as well as accommodating differences in the bucco-lingual alveolar ridge width and the mesio-distal alveolar ridge length between the existing teeth where the implant is to be installed. The device is formed in such a way as to aid correct placement of the dental drill during implant surgery. The device permits the size of the proposed implant to be evaluated by visual comparison with the size of the selected implant site. The device further permits locating the dental implant pilot drill correctly so as to achieve successful implant placement.

Abstract: A manual driver for a dental implant drill or other dental implant tools and the method of use for preparing for dental implantation are provided. The manual driver includes a handle, an extension shank and a chuck having an axial channel configured to receive and interlock an implant drill, and a fastening screw transverse to the axial channel. The method of manual preparation for dental implantation using the manual driver has a high precision, and reduces the risk of bone cracking caused by vibration of motor-driven drilling. The manual drilling method provides better tactile sensation and drilling control to the dentist. Further, the method avoids drilling irrigation, allows collection of virgin bone tissue from the drills, and reintroduces the collected bone tissue in the receiving bore to promote bone regeneration after the implantation.
