  • Publication number: 20080131844
Abstract: A training toothbrush for children comprising a body portion that includes a head portion, a handle, and a brush assembly that is configured to engage with and pivot upon the body portion. A camming mechanism, such as an oblique or curvilinear channel that receives a tracking element, is disposed between the brush assembly and the body portion and configured such that when the operator grasps the handle and attempts to brush the teeth in a longitudinal back and forth motion, the relative longitudinal movement between the handle and the brush assembly causes the camming mechanism to translate the longitudinal motion to the brush head, which then pivots vertically against the teeth in a more preferred motion for allowing the bristles to clean between teeth. In one embodiment, the apparatus includes a locking mechanism that releasably engages the brush head to prevent it from pivoting vertically so that it operates much like a standard toothbrush.

  • Patent number: 7335025
Abstract: In the inventive method, a tooth whitener having a concentration of hydrogen peroxide significantly lower than the concentration typically used in in-office applications is applied to the teeth in gel form. Next, thin transparent film is placed over the teeth to seal the tooth whitener onto the teeth. The film creates a closed system that precludes oxygen from migrating away from the teeth into the atmosphere. A white light in the range of 380-660 nm wavelength is then activated to assist in exciting oxygen in the path of the light and the oxygen molecules bombard the tooth surfaces. The oxygen molecules may not easily escape from the tooth surfaces into the atmosphere due to the wrap and, thus, their whitening “power” is enhanced and lengthened. Then, the patient may stabilize the whitening results over a 7 to 10 day regime using a lower concentration tooth whitener.

  • Patent number: 7332150
Abstract: A material is proposed as an essential abrasive component for cleaning agents in cleaning products for delicate surfaces which is essentially composed of platelets. These platelets are preferably shaped without sharp points, i.e. their circumference is similar to a polygon whose corners do not show angles that are in the majority smaller than 30° and greater than 330°. Glass flakes are for example such a material. The abrasive component of the invention may for example be used for the manufacture of toothpastes and prophylaxis pastes that are efficient but nevertheless not harmful to teeth.

  • Patent number: 7261558
Abstract: A cleaning and whitening system for teeth having an electromagnetic radiation emitting toothbrush and a dentifrice with a photosensitive agent is disclosed. The toothbrush has a cleaning surface, such as bristles. The toothbrush is also adapted to direct electromagnetic radiation toward the cleaning surface. The electromagnetic radiation may be monochromatic or polychromatic. Further, the electromagnetic radiation may be substantially free of ultraviolet radiation. Additionally, the electromagnetic radiation may consist essentially of wavelengths within a range of 300 to 750 nanometers. The photosensitive agent is dispersed throughout the dentifrice. The dentifrice transmits the electromagnetic radiation through a varying thickness disposed over a target surface during use of the system. As a result, a significant portion of the photosensitive agent reacts, resulting in whitening stains, removing and/or disclosing undesired substances, and/or foaming.

Shaped desensitizing compositions comprise a substantially solid dental desensitizing composition that has increased adhesiveness to teeth when moistened with saliva or water. The shape of the dental desensitizing composition facilitates placement of the composition over a person's teeth with substantially less manipulation compared to the use of initially flat strips. The substantially solid dental desensitizing composition becomes more adhesive when moistened with saliva or water, yet remains intact and coherent after the dental desensitizing composition is placed over a person's teeth during desensitizing, particularly when used in combination with a moisture-resistant barrier. The result is that the moistened dental desensitizing composition is able to reliably adhere against a user's teeth during a desensitizing procedure.

  • Patent number: 7052275
Abstract: Kits for bleaching and desensitizing a person's teeth include 1) at least one dental bleaching composition or device in the shape of a dental tray or having a tray-like configuration and 2) at least one dental desensitizing composition or device in the shape of a dental tray or having a tray-like configuration. The shaped treatment compositions comprising the kit have increased adhesiveness to teeth when moistened with saliva or water. The shape of the treatment composition or device facilitates placement of the composition or device over a person's teeth with substantially less manipulation compared to the use of initially flat strips. The substantially solid treatment compositions become more adhesive when moistened with saliva or water, yet remain intact and coherent when protected by a moisture-resistant barrier layer. The substantially solid treatment compositions adhere and remain in place more reliably than treatment strips that include a treatment composition initially in a gel-like condition.

  • Patent number: 7040897
Abstract: A dental treatment system comprises membrane treatment tray that is self-conforming to a person's own teeth when used with a sticky dental treatment composition and a support skeleton. The support skeleton maintains the flexible membrane tray in the form of tray prior to placing the tray over a person's teeth. A sticky viscous composition is either provided in or applied to the membrane tray, and then the treatment system is placed so as to position the membrane tray over the upper or lower teeth of the person. The support skeleton (internal or external) is separated from the membrane tray so that just the membrane tray remains over the person's teeth during the desired dental treatment. The sticky viscous composition holds the membrane tray against the teeth and helps it to at least partially conform to the shape of the teeth. The membrane dental tray is useful for teeth bleaching and other dental treatments known in the art.

  • Patent number: 7041164
Abstract: Etching compositions, curable compositions, packaged products and methods of use for the treatment of bone substrate, i.e., teeth, are described. The etch solutions generally include an inorganic acid, an organic acid and either a solvent, a surfactant or mixtures thereof. The curable composites include reactive monomers and crosslinking agents that are effective to adhere to the surface of the treated substrate. The methods of the invention provide the ability to modify a bone or bone-like surface so that the curable composition, such as an adhesive resin, can be used in combination with a restorative material.

  • Patent number: 7029690
Abstract: Disclosed are articles and oral compositions which enable positioning material(s) which absorb oral fluids into controlled, direct contact with at least one dental arch, or portion thereof, of a subject at the location where teeth emerge from dental arch gum tissue, in a manner conducive to increasing crevicular fluid flow while maintaining a relatively dry application field for a therapeutic and/or cosmetic result effecting period of time. The method is applicable to introduction of gingivally absorbed substances and to treatment of, for instance, periodontal gum disease wherein bacteria is swept along in the crevicular fluid and lysed.
