The method comprises the steps of removing the root canal material from the tooth; cutting out a post-hole in the tooth having a substantially uniform width; cutting out at least one annular tier along the hole; placing a burn-out post having at least one flange into the post-hole so that the flange is seated on the annular tier; applying an acrylic resin onto the tooth and over the burn-out post in order to form a core, and finally removing the core with the burn-out post from the tooth in order to form a casting.Type: GrantFiled: November 24, 1993Date of Patent: September 20, 1994Assignee: Essential Dental Systems, Inc.Inventors: Brett I. Patent number: 5342200Abstract: A dental post is provided comprising a bottom section and a stem with a slot which extends lengthwise through the stem to form a plurality of legs. The legs have wings attached thereto. The wings have cutting surfaces which are used to form indentations in a wall of a tooth bore. Kits are provided comprising the dental post and burs for forming a tooth bore to accomodate the dental post and optionally a core for supporting a tooth crown, a template for forming holes in a tooth and a key for providing support for the core.Type: GrantFiled: June 10, 1992Date of Patent: August 30, 1994Inventor: Paul R. Patent number: 5328372Abstract: A crown-root reconstitution system and method of manufacturing a physiological dental securing peg in which a crown reconstituting material (3) is placed between a peg (1) and sound dentine walls (2a). The peg is formed of a composite material and includes high strength fibers (5) embedded parallel to one another, elongated in its axial direction, continuous from one end to the other end thereof. An epoxy resin matrix is formed, and a transverse modulus of elasticity of the order of magnitude of the average of that of the dentine in the amount of 18 GPa and a longitudinal compression-tensile strength and shear strength greater than corresponding average values for the dentine is provided by tensioning all of the fibers equally and pre-stressing all of the fibers in traction.Type: GrantFiled: May 13, 1992Date of Patent: July 12, 1994Inventors: Marc Reynaud, Pierre-Luc Reynaud, Francois Duret, Bernard Duret

Patent number: 5326263Abstract: There is provided a procedure to maintain an otherwise whole tooth, from which the nerve has been removed by carrying out a procedure which includes inserting a thin flexible post, preferably formed of a light-transmitting, physiologically inert material, to the full depth of a prepared relatively narrow tooth nerve canal, which has previously been sealed at its bottom with gutta percha. The post is permitted to abut against the gutta percha. The post is then surrounded by a film of a composite-filler or sealant, which is preferably light-curable, coating the post while supporting and sealing the walls of the canal. The post is sufficiently flexible as to be able to follow the curvature of the canal, which may retain a slight natural curvature. The composite filler or sealant is then cured, preferably by an optical radiation carried through the preferably transparent post. In one embodiment the light-curing post is removable after the sealant has been at least partially cured.Type: GrantFiled: June 12, 1992Date of Patent: July 5, 1994Inventor: Bernard Weissman

Patent number: 5316478Abstract: A dental post is provided comprising a bottom section with cutting projections and a stem section. The cutting projections cut paths into the root canal walls to provide retention and anti rotation. A disk may be included which has projections on the bottom which cut pathways into the top of the root for optimal post support and root fracture resistance.Type: GrantFiled: July 6, 1992Date of Patent: May 31, 1994Assignee: Wellesley Research Associates, Inc.Inventor: Paul R.
