  • Patent number: 10015839
Abstract: A tracking device can be configured to operate in a distress mode in response to receiving an input pattern associated with the distress mode from a user. Once configured to operate in distress mode, the tracking device modifies connection properties of the tracking devices, for example by connecting to additional mobile devices, and sends a message indicating that the tracking device is in distress mode to a connected mobile device. Based on connecting to a tracking device in distress mode, a mobile device can send a distress message to emergency services or to a predetermined emergency contact. After a threshold amount of time passes, the tracking device can exit distress mode.

Abstract: An interactive display of results obtained from the inversion of logging data is produced by obtaining and inverting the logging data using a Monte-Carlo inversion. An interactive plot having a percentile scale plotted against a location parameter is produced and a particular percentile is selected using the interactive plot. A cross-section plot for the particular percentile using the results of the Monte-Carlo inversion is produced. The particular percentile can be a curve representing a best-fit solution or a polyline representing selected solutions. Background color/shading can be displayed on the interactive plot to indicate user-defined constraints have been applied. Uncertain features can be plotted on a corresponding cross-section display using fading. Clusters of solutions that are substantially equally likely, given the measurements at a particular drill location, can be identified and plotted.

  • Patent number: 8842015
Abstract: In a preferred embodiment, the present invention relates to a hand-held or “gun/firearm mounted” electromagnetic transceiver acting as a pulsed RADAR (i.e., “Radio Detection and Ranging”) or LIDAR (i.e., “Light Detection and Ranging”) device that can detect the presence of one or many passive retro-reflectors attached to or worn by people or objects that are close or distant in a preferred angle of detection. In a preferred embodiment this device could be mounted on a gun and would alert the user if a retro-reflector is detected in the direction of fire. Additional sensors can be used to change the effective field of detection, to save energy or to provide multiple parallel sensors for these and other reasons.

Abstract: A computer-assisted training system for interview-based information gathering and assessment. A GUI displays information pertaining to a training scenario and generates event messages based on student input. An Evaluation Engine compares event messages to rules embodying predetermined instructional content and generates evaluation comments. An Adaptation Engine processes the evaluation comments to produce student feedback that is presented to the student via the GUI. The training scenario includes a scene defining a physical context of the scenario; one or more witnesses who may be interviewed by the student; and the predetermined instructional content.

  • Patent number: 8834163
Abstract: A network connects stations in a distributed physics based simulation system. When the simulation detects that a weapon, especially a missile or directed energy beam, is engaging a target vehicle, one physics station determines damage status of the target vehicle. The detonation or strike of the weapon is applied to a model of the vehicle composed of pieces each made up of a number of parts. Where the damage to a piece of the vehicle exceeds a predetermined threshold, the piece is removed from the vehicle, and where a predetermined maximum damage is reached for the vehicle, the vehicle is considered destroyed. The damage assessment from the weapon is made using raytracing in a physics engine that is also used to control movement of virtual objects in the simulation according to rules of physics of the physics engine.

Abstract: Methods and apparatus for providing firearms training without using traditional firearms. Replicas of firearms have control systems in communication with magazines inserted into the replicas to control the number of rounds that can be fired for each magazine. The control systems can also monitor, record and communicate data relating to all use of the replica to centralized control units. Additionally, the control systems can include location sensors to monitor the location of the replicas and only authorize firing of the replicas in approved locations.

  • Patent number: 8827707
Abstract: A Small Arms Transmitter (SAT) having two optical sources for use in a military training environment is described. The SAT includes an infrared laser as a first optical source. A visible optical source, such as a visible wavelength laser, is configured as a second optical source. The visible wavelength laser can be configured to be selectively energized during a beam alignment operation. A combiner can be configured to combine the beam from the infrared laser with the beam from the visible wavelength laser to produce a combined beam. The optical axis of the combined infrared and visible wavelength lasers can be adjusted using an optical steering module. A first optical steering module can be configured to steer the combined beam substantially along a first axis, while a second optical steering module can be configured to steer the combined beam along a second axis substantially orthogonal to the first axis.

Abstract: An electronic transmission range selection system of a vehicle includes first and second input devices and first and second modules. The first input device is user actuatable to request operation of a transmission in reverse, neutral, and drive. The first module generates first signals based on a first position of the first input device. The second input device is different than the first input device and is user actuatable to request operation of the transmission in park. The second module generates second signals based on a second position of the second input device.

Abstract: Muzzle flash simulators that combine visual, audio, and thermal signals synchronized to the firing of a rifleman's weapon to obscure his position by producing the illusion that the shot came from a location other than the rifleman's actual location. The system may be deployed by placement with a removable ground penetrating spike, by use upon a tripod mounting system, by a hanger or by launching upon a projectile. The simulator is remotely operated. The simulator can be deployed as a single unit or as a set of units operating in coordination.

  • Patent number: 8794968
Abstract: Methods and systems are provided for making more accurate range and marksmanship determinations in laser-based military engagements. These methods and systems allow a shooter and a target in a laser engagement system to be paired with one another in a substantially unambiguous manner. Such pairing allows the lasers to be used at full power and is particularly well suited for clustered environments in which multiple combatants may be in close proximity to one another. The methods and systems are also particularly well suited for testing new or experimental weapon systems by virtue of the more accurate range and marksmanship estimates provided.

  • Patent number: 8777619
Abstract: A computer based simulation system for virtual training for vehicle crews is disclosed. The Vehicle Crew Training System (VCTS) simulates crew positions for different military ground and air vehicles. Two or more crewman modules are networked together to support a partial or full vehicle crew. The crewman modules are self-contained devices that are modular in hardware and software design, easily reconfigurable, and require minimal facility space, allowing use in restricted environments such as trailers. The VCTS is modular at the crew position level; crewman modules are added or deleted as required to meet a particular training need.

  • Patent number: 8777226
Abstract: A proxy target system provides, in the exemplary embodiment, a plurality of cover barriers and proxy barriers. Each cover barrier is sized and configured for allowing at least one shooter to selectively take cover therebehind. Each proxy barrier is associated with a corresponding one of the cover barriers. Each of the cover barriers provides a means for tracking the associated shooter when positioned therebehind. Relatedly, each of the proxy barriers provides an at least one target positioned therebehind and configured for mimicking the movement and exposure of the shooter relative to the associated cover barrier. Thus, with the proxy barriers positioned a distance downrange from the corresponding cover barriers, two or more shooters may position themselves behind respective cover barriers and engage in a shootout with one another by shooting at each other's downrange targets rather than directly at one another, thereby eliminating any risk of injury or death.

  • Patent number: 8777620
Abstract: A firearm training system provides a firearm body having a trigger and a trigger pull sensor circuit. When the trigger is pulled, the trigger pull sensor circuit provides trigger pull data allowing monitoring of the actual two-dimensional trigger pull path taken by the trigger during the trigger pull. The trigger pull path is graft on a predetermined map together with boundary lines representing a predetermined difference threshold from ideal trigger pull data. The system provides a way to monitor trigger pull path to determine whether the trigger has been pulled laterally and/or the firearm body has moved with respect to a longitudinal axis of the firearm body during the trigger pull. By repeatedly monitoring trigger pulls using the system, a user can train to improve trigger pull technique.
