  • Patent number: 7476112
Abstract: A safety cover for an electrical socket or switch has a frame that extends about a socket or switch plate and a cover panel hinged to the frame to prevent access to the plate in a closed position. The frame is secured by clamping an inwardly directed lip between the plate and a mounting box to which the plate is releasably secured. A latch secures the cover panel in the closed position and is released by a key allowing movement of the cover panel to an open position under the biasing of a spring.

  • Patent number: 7114968
Abstract: The electrical outlet with safety guard prevents children from inserting improper conductors, such as hairpins or paper clips, into the outlet. The outlet has an outlet body, a plurality of sockets within the body, a plurality of resilient gates pivotally attached to the body within the sockets, and a plurality of terminals at the ends of the sockets. The plug is inserted into the sockets, and the prongs are confronted with the resilient gates. Upon further pressure from the prongs, the gates pivot into cavities defined between the open end of the sockets and the terminals, so that the prongs make electrical contact with the conductors. The gates are sufficiently stiff that pins, paper clips, and other objects are deflected away from the terminals by the gates.

  • Patent number: 7041905
Abstract: A removable cover that has two safety prongs, for electrical power cords. A replacement outlet cover is also provided that has corresponding side slots to receive the safety prongs. When the cover is inserted into the outlet, the safety prongs engage the side slots, which then hold the cover in place. Once the safety prongs are engaged, the safety cover must be compressed to remove the cover. This type of action is beyond the motor skills of small children, thus making the covers totally safe for use around children. Moreover, removing the covers is a simple task for adults, which makes them more likely to be used than more complicated covers and locks. The covers can be sold as a kit with a replacement outlet box cover for a low price. Power cords can thus be made safe by preventing them from being easily pulled out of outlets.

  • Patent number: 6971921
Abstract: The present invention provides an open/close type electrical connector comprising, a base member, a terminal modular member positioned in the base member, and a cover member positioned on the base member. The cover member pivotally connects with the rear portion of the base member and rotates between an open position and a close position. When the cover member is opened, a receiving space is formed between the base member and the cover member to receive a mated plug. A restricting mechanism is further disposed at a lateral side of the base member for restricting an opened angle of the cover member with respect to the base member. An automatic close mechanism is disposed between the base member and the restricting mechanism so as to close the cover member automatically. In another embodiment a door holder is employed which has pairs of notches, with one pair of notches receiving the protrusions of the door arms therein for retaining the door in a closed position and another pair of notches receiving the protrusions of the door arms therein for retaining the door in an open position. In both embodiments the door includes a channel for receiving an identification icon therein.

Abstract: A connector is constructed to reduce a risk of malfunction or impairment of the connector due to the entrance of dust and/or external matter thereinto. The entrance of external matters into a receptacle 13 is prevented because an opening 16 of the receptacle 13 is normally kept closed by a cover 21 biased by a spring member 28. The cover 21 is temporarily opened against the biasing force of the spring member 28 during the insertion and withdrawal of the female connector housing 30.

Abstract: Disclosed is an IC card having a connector wherein a socket or a jack can be inserted in a direction that is parallel to the face of the IC card. The connector includes a connector body having a rotatable housing attached thereto. The housing has an opening by which a socket or a jack can be fitted and secured to the connector body. When a socket or a jack is not connected to the IC card, the housing member can lie level along the face of the IC card but when a socket is to be connected, the housing can be raised such that it is almost perpendicular to the face of the IC card. The socket or the jack can therefore be inserted parallel to the face of the IC card.

Abstract: An apparatus is disclosed for covering an electrical wall outlet and for maintaining the connection of electrical plugs thereto or to another electrical socket. The apparatus includes a cover plate presenting socket openings and at least one cap for housing a cord/plug assembly, the cap having a pair of legs with flanges attached to free ends thereof. The cover plate includes a pair of opposed slots about each socket opening, each slot having a first channel for receiving the appropriately aligned legs and flanges therein. A cap is secured to a cover plate by rotating the cap in a clockwise direction until the legs reach a terminal channel at which a portion of the plate overlies the flanges to preclude removal of the flanges from the channel. A cap is removable from the cover plate only by placing inward pressure on both legs while simultaneously rotating the cap for movement of the legs back to the first channel.

Abstract: A locking device protects a charge socket on a vehicle having a traction battery, for charging the traction battery. A charge plug, which is connected with a current source by way of a charge cable, is insertable into the charge socket. The charge can be locked by the locking device to prevent removal. The locking exercised by the locking device is effected by a swing lid which, in the closed position, is used for covering the charge socket. Alternatively, the locking device exercises a locking effect directly on the inserted charge plug whereby the locking device can simultaneously be used for locking the swing lid in its closed position.

The device includes a base plate having a pair of receptacle openings for aligning adjacent the electrical receptacles of an electrical outlet. A cover box is hingedly coupled at one of its end walls of its perimeter wall to one of the end edges of the base plate to permit pivoting of the cover box between an open position and a closed position in relation to the base plate. When in the closed position, the base plate substantially covers the cover box interior space. Another of the end walls of the cover box perimeter wall is detachably coupled to another of the end edges of the base plate when the cover box is positioned in the closed position. Additionally, through each side wall of the cover box perimeter wall are a pair of spaced apart cord slots designed for permitting extension of an electrical cord therethrough.

Abstract: An open/close type connector having a base member, a cover member, and an electronic apparatus of a card type or a personal computer type using the connector. The connector is thin so that when it is not used, i.e., is not connected with a modular plug the portability of the card is not lost. In addition, less restriction is introduced on the attachment position at which the connector is attached to the card or the personal computer. A link is used for opening and closing the cover member. Structure for enhancing the stability and the electrical connection reliability when a modular plug is mounted on the connector is provided, and the base member and the cover member are adapted to be rotatable so that they can be relatively opened or closed thereby yielding a connector which can be preferably adopted by an electronic apparatus of a card type.
