Abstract: A socket protective cover capable of preventing single-opening insertions includes a housing, a sliding base and covers. The housing has insertion openings. The sliding base is capable of transverse displacement in the housing, and has restoring elasticity. The covers are also provided with restoring elasticity, and have blocking members for extending into the insertion openings of the housing. When the blocking members at the covers are not simultaneously pushed and departed from the insertion openings, the other blocking member not pushed away from the insertion opening remains in the insertion opening and blocks sideward movements of the sliding base, thereby forbidding an alien object from pushing away the blocking members and thus preventing the alien object from entering the socket.

The cover protects terminals mounted in the first connector from dirt and debris when the connector is in an unmated state. As the second connector is engaged with the first connector, angled surfaces on the alignment posts of the second connector cooperate with chamfered surfaces on the first connector to guide a misaligned second connector into the first connector. Angled surfaces on the alignment posts and cover cooperate to move the cover exposing the terminals on the first connector for electrical connection with terminals on the second connector.

The sliding cover is provided with wedge members for corresponding with receptacles at the outer housing, wherein each wedge member has a passive inclined plane. The elastic support member has elastic restoring forces and is disposed below the sliding cover. The elastic member is pressed between the sliding cover and the outer housing. When the sliding cover receives abnormal forces, the wedge members block the receptacles at the outer housing due to unequal forces received, thereby preventing alien objects from entering the receptacles.

Abstract: The invention is directed to techniques for controlling access to an optical interface using film having windowed sections and non-windowed sections. The windowed and non-windowed sections are selectively positioned over an optical interface location that holds the optical interface in order to protect the optical interface. Preferably, such positioning occurs in an automated manner such that a technician need not perform an extensive cleaning step each time fiber optic equipment requires handling, e.g., each time a fiber optic connector of a fiber optic component is unplugged and re-plugged. In one arrangement, an optical connector housing holds the optical interface in an optical interface location of the optical connector housing, and a film positioning assembly selectively positions windowed and non-windowed sections of film over the optical interface location in order to selectively expose and protect the optical interface.
