  • Patent number: 9728307
Abstract: An elbow arrester with a T-body is disclosed capable of coupling with an apparatus for protection from transient over voltage, and coupling with additional cable accessories, without having to loosen the initial connection with the coupled apparatus. The elbow body of the T-body arrester has a first portion, and a second portion protruding from an intermediate section of the first portion to define a T-body. A receiving feature is located within the first portion extending towards a first end, while a male feature is coupled to a second end of the first portion, opposite from the receiving feature. A coupling fastener is integrally molded into the first portion, providing for an apparatus coupled to the coupling fastener to be decoupled without loosening the connection of another apparatus connected to the T-Body elbow. Further, decoupling the other apparatus does not loosen the apparatus coupled to the coupling fastener.

  • Publication number: 20140349500
Abstract: A connector device includes a device body and a pin assembly. The connector device includes a bushing portion with a conductive bus having a first bore, a conductive housing with a second bore that is axially aligned with the first bore, an internal chamber separating the first bore and the second bore, and a gelatinous silicone material enclosed within the internal chamber. The pin assembly includes a non-conductive tip and a conductive pin secured to the non-conductive tip. The pin assembly is configured to move axially, within the first and second bores, between a closed position that provides an electrical connection between the conductive bus and the conductive housing and an open position that provides no electrical connection between the conductive bus and the conductive housing. The gelatinous silicone material inhibits voltage arcing across a surface of the non-conductive tip when the pin assembly is in the open position.

  • Patent number: 8808017
Abstract: A novel connector pair suppresses arcing during connection and disconnection. In one general aspect of the invention, first and second insulating barriers are configured to extend beyond corresponding first and second contacts, the barriers being arranged to cover a leading end of at least one of the contacts, and to engage with each other when the contacts are separated by a small gap, thereby closing off substantially all through-air arcing paths between them. In another general aspect of the invention, at least one electrical contact in a connector pair is a bimetal contact having a transitional segment made from high resistivity metal. The transitional segment is configured to make first and last contact during the initial phases of mating and un-mating, thereby increasing electrical resistance and significantly lowering the electrical current and the energy available for electrical arcing.

  • Publication number: 20140099810
Abstract: The present invention provides long-lasting, reusable wire electrical cable connectors that can be quickly connected and disconnected to accommodate the safe connection or termination of a plurality of wires upon reversibly joining said wire electrical cable connectors, wherein each reusable wire electrical cable connector comprises at least two main members as a connector pair, a male connector member and a female connector member. In a second embodiment type, the invention provides for terminating connector pairs where the male for female connector member is adapted to terminate wiring of a single cable rather than to connect two different cable pairs of the wiring. The invention further provides optional tools for quick connecting and disconnecting of the two connector members of a connector pair of either of the two embodiment types to efficiently snap apart the two connector members for repair or maintenance.

Abstract: Loadbreak connectors which are modified to reduce the probability of flashover upon disassembly operation of a loadbreak bushing insert from a power cable elbow connector. The bushing insert is provided with vents to vent a cavity formed between the elbow cuff and the transition shoulder portion of the bushing insert with ambient air to avoid a decrease in pressure within the connection region and avoid a decrease in the dielectric strength of the air therein thus preventing flashover. The vents can be provided directly on the transition shoulder portion of the insert, an elbow seating indicator band or on a bushing insert interface shell. Additionally, the band and the shell may be formed of a bright contrasting color which serves to indicate whether the loadbreak connector is improperly assembled. The shell further reduces friction upon assembly of the connector.

  • Patent number: 4891016
Abstract: An apparatus bushing is fixed to a support wall or the wall of the apparatus housing and is electrically coupled to the apparatus within. A high voltage cable is fixed to the single leg of a 600-Amp "T" connector and is supported only by a bracket extending from said apparatus bushing to one of the "T" legs. A removable pin-and-socket applied link member selectively couples the remaining "T" leg to the apparatus bushing whereby power passes between the apparatus and high voltage cable only when said link is present and isolates said cable and apparatus when it is absent. A novel operating assembly assures proper contact between the link sockets and the pins of the apparatus bushing extender and the 600-Amp "T" connector and can be arranged to positively separate the link assembly. The operating assembly can also be used to install and remove a cap assembly when the electrical link is not in place.

  • Patent number: 4799895
Abstract: A high-voltage cable is fixed to the single leg of a 600-amp "T" connector, which in turn is coupled for non-removable engagement with an insulating bushing fixed to a wall of the apparatus housing it is to serve. A removable screw-applied link member selectively couples the remaining leg to the apparatus bushing whereby power is supplied to the apparatus only when the link is present and isolates the cable when it is absent. A bushing extender and novel contact extenders fix the positions of components and serve to align the two arms of the link. Each of the arms includes an externally threaded stud for engagement with the contact extenders which are positioned in the "T" leg and bushing extender such as to engage the studs before interface interference to assist and guide the screw assembly of such parts. By this system, the apparatus and cable can be tested, grounded and a visible break performed without moving the high-voltage cable.
