Abstract: A pass-thru electrical connector assembly is an integral part of a barrier wall which separates a harsh environment from a controlled environment. A connector body having a staged position and a locked position on the barrier wall has a flange which extends radially outward from one end of an axial projecting portion. Via rotation of the connector body from the staged position to the locked position, the projecting portion of the connector body moves axially forward through a hole of the barrier wall as a ring seal is preferably axially compressed between the flange and one side of the barrier wall. Axial movement of the connector body is achieved via a plurality of locking lugs which protrude radially outward from and are spaced circumferentially about the projecting portion of the connector body. The lugs are aligned circumferentially with a plurality of slots spaced about and communicating with the hole of the barrier wall when the connector body is in the staged position.

Abstract: A high voltage electrical connector has a mating pair of male and female contacts, each one soldered to an end of conductors that are to be joined to safely carry a high electrical voltage. One of the contacts is mounted in an insulating sleeve with a smooth outer cylindrical surface. The other contact is mounted in a resilient shroud. The shroud has a smooth bore coaxial with the contacts. At least one ring or ridge extends radially inward from the bore. The ring wipes clean the surface of the sleeve as the shroud is stretched over the sleeve during mating of the contacts. When mated, the ring is tightly compressed against the surface of the sleeve, excluding air and foreign matter from the surface. This prevents arcing and escape of current from the contacts to the surroundings. The shroud greatly increases the voltage that the connector can safely carry. Silicone rubber is a preferred material for the shroud.

  • Patent number: 4767356
Abstract: An electrical connector comprises two mechanically couplable elements to cause electrical contacts positioned in these elements, to cooperate in pairs. At least one of the elements comprises an insulating body pierced with longitudinal housings shielding the contacts and itself retained and shielded, at least in part, in an outer casing. Clamping means for the element to a cable joined electrically to the contacts comprise: a collar engirdling the outer sheath of the cable and two diametrically opposite radial projections. Two half-clamps surround the rear end of the insulating body and the neighboring zone of the cable including the collar, each projection being engaged in two respective inner recesses of the two half-clamps. Axial connecting means and means for fastening in rotation are provided between the insulating body and the half-clamps as well as assembly means for the half-clamps.

  • Patent number: 4709123
Abstract: An electric component for use in a motor vehicle has a casing accommodating an electric circuit therein, and a terminal holder mounted in the casing in covering relation to the open end thereof and supporting electric terminals from the electric circuit for connection to wires. The terminal holder has a tubular member projecting outwardly from the casing and vent holes defined in the tubular member for communication between the space in the casing and the exterior thereof. The tubular member is covered with a cover which provides communication between the vent holes and the exterior only when there is a pressure difference developed between the space in the casing and the exterior thereof.

  • Patent number: 4704091
Abstract: Connector system such as for medical applications, which includes a yoke with inset pins, the yoke also including a locking feature for mating with an insulated connector, and locking the insulating connector into the yoke. The yoke includes at least one or a plurality such as three or more inset pins in the yoke for receiving insulated connectors such as for breath, heartbeat, and rate monitors. The yoke is formed in a three step molding process where colored buttons are first molded, the buttons and pins are then molded into a small inner yoke body assembly, and then a final yoke assembly is molded encompassing the pins, buttons, informational plaque, including a strain relief for the cable. The connector system provides for safety as well as FDA considerations and prevents a connecting lead being plugged into an AC outlet.
