With Stress Relieving Means For Conductor To Terminal Joint Patents (Class 439/399)
  • Patent number: 11024459
Abstract: A method of manufacturing a coil component including a step of welding a wire to a metal terminal by laser welding capable of making positional displacement of the wire only minimally occur. As a metal terminal, a metal terminal having a connecting portion on which a positioning groove for receiving and positioning a portion of the wire is formed is prepared. The wire is temporarily fixed to the connecting portion in a state where the wire is positioned by being fitted in the positioning groove, and the wire and the metal terminal are welded to each other by irradiating a laser beam. The positioning groove is preferably formed into a V shape in cross section.

Abstract: A dual contact Insulation Displacement Contact (IDC) header pin comprised of an upper section, a lead-in section, and a retention section. The upper section of the pin has at a plurality of pin barbs to allow it to be retained into a housing. The side walls and back of the upper portion create a C-shape to the upper portion. Each IDC header pin has two blades to contact a wire and displace the insulation thereof. The lead-in section serves to lead the IDC header pin into a housing and prevent stubbing of the pin during insertion. The retention section of the pin has a plurality of rib-like projections allowing the pin to be retained into respective holes in a PCB by applying normal force and an interference fit. An embodiment is open, with front protrusions on the upper section, and another embodiment is closed, having two front walls on the upper section.

Abstract: A connector for an electrical cable, comprising a body in which is formed a passageway having a longitudinal axis, a contact element which projects into the passageway in order to make contact with the electrical cable when in the passageway, and a retaining element for hindering longitudinal withdrawal of the cable from the passageway, the retaining element comprising a pair of resiliently deformable lips extending into the passageway from a face thereof in a first direction transverse to the longitudinal direction, each of the lips being separated from a face of the passageway in a second direction transverse to both the first direction and the longitudinal axis, thereby to allow flexing of the lips in the second direction. The lips are advantageously shorter than the depth in the first direction of the passageway, typically 40 to 80% of the passageway depth. Further lips can be provided on a lid which covers the passageway, the further lips extending in a direction opposed to the first lips.

  • Patent number: 6478604
Abstract: A ribbon cable assembly includes a segment of ribbon cable having first and second ends, a first IDC connector mounted to the first end of the ribbon cable segment, and a second IDC connector mounted to the second end of the ribbon cable segment. Each connector includes a connector housing, and a set of terminals supported by the connector housing. Each terminal has a base portion (e.g., a pin, a pad, etc.) for coupling to an external device, and a cable attachment portion which is unitary with the base portion of that terminal. The cable attachment portion of each terminal defines (i) a slot that receives a wire, and (ii) wire positioners that position the wire within the slot when the slot receives the wire. The wire positioners of each terminal can precisely locate a wire within that terminal. The wire positioners facilitate wire retention and improve electrical connectivity thus providing a reliable electrical pathway between the wire and that terminal.

Abstract: A terminal fitting (T) has a pair of crimping pieces (17A, 17B) that extend up from opposite side edges of a bottom wall (11), and are crimped into connection with a wire (W) placed on the bottom wall (11). The crimping pieces (17A, 17B) are offset to each other in the longitudinal direction of the wire (W). • Patent number: 6447324
Abstract: A cramping terminal fitting is provided to maintain a satisfactory contact state with a wire without applying plating again after shaping the terminal fitting by a press. The terminal fitting includes insulation displacement contact (IDC) portions (6) into which a wire can be pushed. Each IDC portion (6) is comprised of a contact portion (9) formed by embossing side walls (5) in such a manner as to have a triangular cross section, and cutting blades (8) formed by bending long pieces (18) and short pieces (17) to have a triangular cross section. Further, guide portions (10) for guiding the wire to the IDC portions (6) are provided above the cutting blades (8). Since the contact portions (9) remain plated, a contact state with the wire can be satisfactorily maintained.

  • Patent number: 6386900
Abstract: An insulation-displacement terminal has opposed side walls (12) and a wire-receiving space therebetween. V-shaped insulation-displacement portions (16) are formed by a pair of plates (16F, 16R) that are bent from the side walls (12) and project into the wire-receiving space. A bending angle (&bgr;) between one plate (16R) and the side wall (12) is larger than a bending angle (&agr;) between the other plate (16F) and the side wall (12). A pulling force on the wire (W) does not make a loose movement since the bending angle of the plate (16F) located at the side behind with respect to a pulling direction is a right angle. Further, since the bending angle (&bgr;) between the plate (16R) and the side wall 12 is larger, an angle (&ggr;) between the plates (16F) and (16R) of the insulation-displacement portion (16) is sufficiently large to ensure a wide contact area with a core (Wb) of the wire (W). Thus, a high contact reliability can be secured.
