Abstract: A joint connector includes a metal fittings assembly 110 and a housing 120 for fitting the assembly 110. The assembly 110 consists of two terminals 110A, 110B each having a band-shaped carrier 140 and a plurality of terminal units 130 connected to the carrier 140 through a joint portion 137. In the assembly 110, the terminals 110A, 110B are laid to overlap each other while the terminals 110A, 110B are shifted from each other in a predetermined length in the longitudinal direction of the carriers 140 and the carriers 140 are welded to each other. Abstract: A connector for an electrical cable, comprising a body in which is formed a passageway having a longitudinal axis, a contact element which projects into the passageway in order to make contact with the electrical cable when in the passageway, and a retaining element for hindering longitudinal withdrawal of the cable from the passageway, the retaining element comprising a pair of resiliently deformable lips extending into the passageway from a face thereof in a first direction transverse to the longitudinal direction, each of the lips being separated from a face of the passageway in a second direction transverse to both the first direction and the longitudinal axis, thereby to allow flexing of the lips in the second direction. The lips are advantageously shorter than the depth in the first direction of the passageway, typically 40 to 80% of the passageway depth. Further lips can be provided on a lid which covers the passageway, the further lips extending in a direction opposed to the first lips.

Abstract: A ribbon cable assembly includes a segment of ribbon cable having first and second ends, a first IDC connector mounted to the first end of the ribbon cable segment, and a second IDC connector mounted to the second end of the ribbon cable segment. Each connector includes a connector housing, and a set of terminals supported by the connector housing. Each terminal has a base portion (e.g., a pin, a pad, etc.) for coupling to an external device, and a cable attachment portion which is unitary with the base portion of that terminal. The cable attachment portion of each terminal defines (i) a slot that receives a wire, and (ii) wire positioners that position the wire within the slot when the slot receives the wire. The wire positioners of each terminal can precisely locate a wire within that terminal. The wire positioners facilitate wire retention and improve electrical connectivity thus providing a reliable electrical pathway between the wire and that terminal.

  • Patent number: 6386900
Abstract: An insulation-displacement terminal has opposed side walls (12) and a wire-receiving space therebetween. V-shaped insulation-displacement portions (16) are formed by a pair of plates (16F, 16R) that are bent from the side walls (12) and project into the wire-receiving space. A bending angle (&bgr;) between one plate (16R) and the side wall (12) is larger than a bending angle (&agr;) between the other plate (16F) and the side wall (12). A pulling force on the wire (W) does not make a loose movement since the bending angle of the plate (16F) located at the side behind with respect to a pulling direction is a right angle. Further, since the bending angle (&bgr;) between the plate (16R) and the side wall 12 is larger, an angle (&ggr;) between the plates (16F) and (16R) of the insulation-displacement portion (16) is sufficiently large to ensure a wide contact area with a core (Wb) of the wire (W). Thus, a high contact reliability can be secured.
