  • Patent number: 6206731
Abstract: A cable end connector for being connected to a metallic enclosure panel comprises a connector body and a metallic shell. The shell is roughly rectangular in shape and is open at both a front end and a rear end. The shell forms a plurality of latches adjacent to its front edges and a bent outward tongue at each rear edge. The connector body comprises a roughly rectangular insulative housing defining a plurality of terminal-receiving passageways extending therethrough. A conductive metallic shielding plate covers the insulative housing except for the front face, and the shell then fits over the forward end of the housing. An insulative plastic cover covers the metallic shielding plate and the rearward half of the shell, embedding the outward bent tongues. The enclosure panel defines one or more holes therein and forms a plurality of tabs at peripheries of the holes, each tab defining an aperture corresponding to a latch on the front edge of the shell.

  • Patent number: 6126458
Abstract: A bussed electrical center (BEC) assembly includes a BEC having a BEC connector on its lower surface, and a lower housing adapted to be secured in position within an automobile engine compartment. Flexible retaining arms extend upwardly from the housing and engage a connector and secure it in a pre-set position in the housing. When the BEC is later mounted to the housing, the connector is automatically aligned with the BEC connector and a shroud extending downwardly from the BEC contacts the retaining arms and deflects them outwardly so that the connector is released from the pre-set position and is free to slide upwardly toward the BEC connector. A bolt passes through the BEC connector and engages a captive nut in the connector so that rotation of the bolt draws the connector upwardly into engagement with the BEC connector.

  • Patent number: 5931688
Abstract: An electrical connector assembly for mounting an electrical component, such as a radio, on a panel. The connector assembly permits blind mating of a radio in a dash. A header on the radio is mated to a plug connector on a wiring harness. The plug connector is mounted on a mounting member on a panel. When the component is inserted through an opening, such as an opening in an automobile dash, the plug connector can shift into alignment with a header on the component. Ramps on the header and on the plug connector cam the mating connectors into alignment permitting movement in a plane perpendicular to the mating direction. Alignment and movement in the mating direction is permitted by springs holding the plug connector on the housing. Metal springs exerting a mating force when deflected can be use. Alternatively molded cantilever latches can be deflected. The mated connectors can still move in the axial direction after mating.
