Patent number: 5573428Abstract: A low profile hermetic electrical connector includes a conductive layer with opposite first and second conductive layer surfaces. An inner electrical isolation layer is coupled between the first conductive layer surface and a first contact and an outer electrical isolation layer is coupled between the second conductive layer surface and a second contact. A contact interconnector electrically couples the first contact and the second contact through the inner electrical isolation layer, the conductive layer, and the outer electrical isolation layer without electrically contacting the conductive layer, creating a serpentine, low flow path for vapor through the adhesive layers. In a hermetic electrical cable end connector, the first contact is electrically coupled to a first conductor through a first interconnector and a second contact is electrically coupled to a second conductor through a second interconnector. Two additional electrical isolation layers are required.Type: GrantFiled: June 24, 1994Date of Patent: November 12, 1996Assignee: Motorola, Inc.Inventors: Bradley M. Biggs, Christopher F. Patent number: 5405272Abstract: Electrical connectors are provided for enabling electrical access through a side wall of a microelectronic, sensor, or fiber optic package housing while maintaining hermeticity. These connectors include a connector body having an aperture therethrough and a coefficient of thermal expansion which is different than that of the housing. The connectors include a connector pin disposed through the aperture of the connector body and hermetically sealed to the connector body with an insulating composition or a ceramic insert bonded to the connector pins. Flange means are also provided for joining the hermetic electrical connector to the microelectronic package housing. The flange means includes upper and lower flanges metallurgically bonded together and comprising first and second metallic compositions respectively. The first composition is hermetically bonded to the connector body with a fusion weld having a heat-affected-zone which does not significantly affect the hermetic seals around the connector pins.Type: GrantFiled: May 4, 1992Date of Patent: April 11, 1995Assignee: Balo Precision Parts Inc.Inventor: Edward J. Patent number: 5395265Abstract: A retention system for retaining a connector housing to a substrate includes a pair of slotted arms extending from the housing and a wedge-shaped abutment member having a camming surface and a latching surface thereon. One leg of an L-shaped clip is insertable into a channel defined by the slotted arms. The top edge of this leg of the clip is notched to form a tab. The clip is deflectable by the camming surface as the leg advances into the channel until the latch bar on the clip snaps into latching engagement with the latching surface on the abutment member, thereby to secure the clip to the housing. The second leg of the clip is bent to underlie the connector housing when the clip is attached thereto.Type: GrantFiled: March 2, 1994Date of Patent: March 7, 1995Assignee: Berg Technology, Inc.Inventors: Vincent D. DiMondi, John D. Walden, Gerald N. Wilson

Patent number: 5096440Abstract: Respective opposite ends of an insulating housing body of a surface mount connector are integrally formed with pairs of opposed, resilient, L-shaped arms, aligned with respective recesses extending under a board engaging face and embracing respective anchoring portions of respective retaining plates with a solder tab of each retaining plate received in a respective recess. Free ends of the arms extend towards each other in spaced apart relation defining between them an inspection window through which a reflow solder join between the solder tab and a dummy pad on the circuit board can be seen and checked from above the board.Type: GrantFiled: May 10, 1991Date of Patent: March 17, 1992Assignee: Kel CorporationInventor: Akira Katsumata

Patent number: 4966559Abstract: A terminal block assembly for connection to the interior side of an electrical hermetic terminal of a hermetic compressor is disclosed. The hermetic terminal comprises a cup-shaped metallic body member having a plurality of conductor pins which extend through spaced apertures in the body member and are hermetically secured thereto by means of a glass insulating material. A cylindrical open end of the cup-shaped body member is exposed to the interior of the housing. The terminal block assembly comprises a main body member and a lid member. The main body member includes a cylindrical side wall portion that fits snugly within the open end of the terminal body member. The conductor pins extend through apertures in a round bottom wall of the main body member into partitioned channels in which the conductor pins are electrically connected to respective wire conductors. The lid member interlocks with the main body member to cover the partitioned channels.Type: GrantFiled: October 12, 1989Date of Patent: October 30, 1990Assignee: Tecumseh Products CompanyInventor: Ronald R. Patent number: 4826442Abstract: A solder clip (52) is formed independent of the molding of a connector housing (26) and inserted into recessed channels (50) in the mounting face (36) of the housing (26). The solder clip (52) is inserted until a stop (62) is reached thereby positioning the solder clip (52) relative to the housing (26). The leading corners (56) of the solder clip (52) are rounded to facilitate insertion of the solder clip (52) in the recessed channels (50). A portion of the base (54) of the solder clip (52) is offset (64) from the plane of the remainder of the base (54) to provide an interference fit with the channels (50) to maintain the position of the solder clip (52) in the channels (50). The solder clip (52) may have a solder tail (58) or a raised rib (66) for soldering to a printed circuit board (48). The solder clip (52 ) provides mechanical retention of the housing (26) on a printed circuit board (48) and may also serve as a ground.Type: GrantFiled: April 27, 1988Date of Patent: May 2, 1989Assignee: AMP IncorporatedInventors: George H.
