Abstract: A multi-coaxial connector comprises a metallic die-cast block having a plurality of through-holes, a plurality of L-shaped contacts each having foot and leg portions, and a plurality of insulator sleeves. The through-holes hold the foot portions of the L-shaped contacts on the inside circumferences thereof, via the insulator sleeves, respectively. The L-shaped contacts serve as inner coaxial conductors, while the metallic block serves as a common outer coaxial conductor for the inner coaxial conductors. The connector further comprises an insulator housing which has an open rear end and additional through-holes corresponding to the through-holes. Such insulator housing accommodates the front end of the metallic block inserted thereinto through the open end, so as to serve as a cap of the metallic block.

The grounding bars 31a or 32a and the signal lines Ce of coaxial cables are sandwiched between an insulation displacement piece 11 or 12 and the housing 10 to press the grounding bars 31a or 32a and the signal lines Ce into the insulation displacement portions Ta of the contacts T in the housing. The grounding plates 31 and 32 include barrels 33 to which the shielding wires Cc of the coaxial cables are connected for retaining the coaxial cables C in alignment such that the shielding wires Cc and the grounding bars 31a and 32a are electrically connected. In this way, an insulation displacement connector for coaxial cables is realized to make the connection of the coaxial cables to the contacts easy even for a multi-terminal connector and to prevent faults in the performance of the connector.

  • Patent number: 5906512
Abstract: An electronics module coaxial connection assembly comprises a plurality of coaxial connectors (10) mounted in a die cast housing (4) that receives printed circuit boards (PCBs) (6,8) therein. The PCBs are interconnected and mounted within the housing (4) of compliant pins that allow assembly in the axial direction (A). Contacts (51,50) mounted along the edge (60) of the PCB (6) have fork-shaped contact arms (56) that plug onto the coaxial centre conductors (32) that project into the cavity area (34) of the housing. This enables connection of the PCB to the coaxial conductors by merely plugging the PCBs into the housing in the axial direction during assembly. Cost-effective manufacture of components and assembly is thus provided.
