Patent number: 5188541Abstract: A cable tap system is disclosed for selectively connecting a plurality of tap terminals to a plurality of conductors in either a continuous multi-conductor electrical cable or in two ends of two such cables butt up to one another. A closable cable clamp assembly clamps onto the continuous cable or cable ends. A terminal holder is positionable against one side of the cable clamp assembly and mounts a plurality of tap terminals for interconnection to the conductors of the cable. A backing member is positionable against an opposite side of the cable clamp assembly. A plurality of rotatable fasteners are operatively associated between the terminal holder and the backing member for sandwiching the cable clamp assembly therebetween and maintaining the tap terminals interconnected with the conductors of the cable. A tool is provided for simultaneously rotating the fasteners to close the terminal holder and the backing member in a uniform action.Type: GrantFiled: December 10, 1991Date of Patent: February 23, 1993Assignee: Molex IncorporatedInventors: Joseph D. Patent number: 5122081Abstract: An electrical connector is provided with a dielectric housing having a forward mating end and a rear terminating end. The forward mating end has at least one terminal receiving cavity. A terminal is received in the cavity for connection to a complementary terminal of an appropriate mating connector when the mating connector is coupled to the mating end of the housing. The terminal is terminated to a conductor projecting from the rear terminating end of the housing. The rear end of the housing is provided substantially entirely by a pair of clam-shell members movably mounted on the forward end of the housing for movement between an open condition to allow the terminal easily to be inserted into the cavity and a closed condition securely encapsulating the inserted terminal. Complementary interengaging retaining portions are provided on the terminal and at least one of the clam-shell members for holding the terminal in the cavity when the clam-shell members are in their closed condition.Type: GrantFiled: December 16, 1991Date of Patent: June 16, 1992Assignee: Molex IncorporatedInventors: Steven B. Patent number: 5076806Abstract: An electrical connector assembly is shown as including an outer shell member (4) which can receive a pin housing (50) from a rear entry. The pin housing includes a rotatable secondary lock member (90) which is snap latchable into place. Terminals 120 are also insertable into the pin housing (50). A multi-conductor cable (340) has individual conductors (344) which are terminated to the crimp sections (127) of the terminals. To seal the connector, a sealing grommet (130) is insertable over the cable (340) and is slidable into the shell (4).Type: GrantFiled: April 25, 1991Date of Patent: December 31, 1991Assignee: AMP IncorporatedInventors: Gheorghe Hotea, Jurgen Hass

Patent number: 4979913Abstract: An electrical connector of the type used with lanceless pin and socket terminals includes both a deflectable primary lock and a hinged secondary lock. The deflectable primary lock is in the form of a plurality of outwardly deflectable arcuate members which protrude into housing cavities to engage a continuous locking surface on either a pin or socket when in the undeflected configuration. The hinged secondary lock can be shifted into flush engagement with the exterior of the primary lock only when the primary lock is in the undeflected configuration. The secondary lock thus provides both terminal position assurance, secondary locking and additional locking strength.Type: GrantFiled: October 26, 1989Date of Patent: December 25, 1990Assignee: AMP IncorporatedInventors: Richard E.
