Vertically Mounted Wafer Edge Connector Patents (Class 439/607.39)
  • Patent number: 11495909
Abstract: An electrical connector assembly can include a plug connector and a receptacle connector that can mate together. Conductive communication between the plug and receptacle connectors is established by mating signals terminals and mating ground terminals contained in terminal subassemblies accommodated in each connector. To align and support the signal and ground terminals, the terminals may be part of a terminal wafer and the terminal subassembly can be assembled from one or more wafers. The terminal wafer may include grounding features to improve the electrical characteristics and data transmission through the electrical connector assembly.

  • Patent number: 8556657
Abstract: An electrical connector includes contact modules each holding a plurality of contacts with dielectric frames surrounding corresponding contacts. The contacts are arranged as differential pairs each having a positive contact and a negative contact. The contacts are arranged along rows and columns with the positive and negative contacts of each pair being in the same row. The contacts are divided into a first group of contacts and a second group of contacts. The contacts within the first group of contacts have a first row pitch and the contacts within the second group of contacts have a second row pitch. A void is provided between the first group of contacts and the second group of contacts having a width at least twice the first row pitch and at least twice the second row pitch.

  • Patent number: 8465302
Abstract: A connector housing includes a plurality of wafers containing terminal dedicated to either ground signals or differential signals. Terminals in adjacent wafers can be arranged to provide broadside coupled differential signal pairs. Terminals dedicated for use as ground terminals can be wider than the signal terminals to provide shielding between adjacent differential signal pairs. The signal terminals of each differential signal terminal pair can a constant width from their contact portions to a location proximate their tail portions and the terminals diverge from broadside alignment and increase in their width until they end at the terminal tail portions.
