  • Patent number: 11264755
Abstract: A receptacle connector having a plurality of airflow holes positioned to avoid heat buildup inside a receptacle shell, preventing deformation to the housing of a short, high density connector during solder reflow. The airflow holes may be in a bent portion joining a top face and rear face of the shell. The receptacle connector may be mounted to a substrate, such as a printed circuit board, leaving a gap between the connector and the substrate, forming an airflow passage between the substrate and the receptacle connector, enabling heated air to reach mounting portions of terminals of the connector during soldering, but reducing heat buildup within the shell. The passage, alone or in combination with a cutout in a face of the shell, may expose terminal contacts of the receptacle connector to provide for easy inspection and rework of the solder joints between the terminal contacts and the substrate.

Abstract: The present invention discloses an electrical connector that includes a front zinc-alloy shell and a rear zinc-alloy shell. The front zinc-alloy shell and the rear zinc-alloy shell are made from die casting. The two shells are fitted tightly to provide shielding against electromagnetic interference. There is a cable plastic block with holding grooves to hold wires for electrical grounding and an isolation plate underneath the cable to provide electrical isolation. The holding grooves increase the connection strength of a connector cable. There is also a plastic block with an engagement hook. The engagement hook has a hook portion at one end and a curved fixing portion at the other end with an extending portion. The engagement hook provides an elastically supportive force. When a downward force is applied to the engagement hook, the curved fixing portion provides a counteracting force to press the extension portion against the front zinc-alloy shell.

The female shield is configured to mate with a male shield to maintain the continuity of the shield in a connection. The male shield includes a flexible protrusion that is designed to align with and snap into an aperture defined in the female shield, thereby providing a mechanical connection between the male and female shields. The male shield also defines a flexible contact adapted to closely engage an interior surface of the female exterior shield, thereby providing an electrical connection between the male and female shields. The flexible protrusion and the flexible contact flex along axes that are generally orthogonal to one another so the flexible contact interacts with the female exterior shield substantially independently of the flexible protrusion.
