Metallic Connector Or Contact Secured To Insulation Patents (Class 439/733.1)
  • Patent number: 6261132
Abstract: A header connector (10) of a future bus includes an insulative housing (12) having a bottom wall (14) defining a plurality of receiving holes (20) therethrough for receiving a corresponding plurality of pins (22) therein. Each pin includes a contact portion (24), a retaining portion (25), and a plurality of tail portions (30). Each pin has a retention mechanism (26) formed thereon, for securing the pin in the corresponding receiving hole. Each receiving hole has opposite end portions, and an intermediate portion wider than the end portions. A width and a length of the intermediate portion are greater than a thickness and a width of the contact portion of each pin respectively, so that the contact portion can freely pass through the receiving hole during assembly. A width of the end portions is less than a thickness of the retention mechanism, for firm engagement therewith.

Abstract: The electrical connector of the present invention is equipped with contacts that are secured in a housing. The contacts are formed to have a pair of spring members surrounding a contact receiving opening. The housing has contact receiving cavities for accommodating each contact. Each contact receiving cavity is contoured to have a base wall, a mating contact receiving opening passing through the base wall and a rail projecting from the base wall, the rail extending along the base wall on opposite sides of the mating contact receiving opening. During contact insertion the spring members grip the rail to angularly orient the contact within the contact receiving cavity.

Abstract: The connector comprises a body (1) provided with a cylindrical bore (14) designed to house an insert (16) of cylindrical shape. The insert (16) is provided with a base (19) and with a first flange (25) which are intended to allow it to be positioned on an insert support (20). A second flange (18) ensures that the insert is positioned angularly in the body (1) with a conjugate female element (17). The insert support (20) is a piece formed from a hollow cylindrical part (21) followed by a cylindrical wall (23) which extends over a peripheral length greater than a peripheral half-length. This wall (23) is divided into two parts by an axial guiding groove (24) with which the first flange (25) mates.

Abstract: An electrical connector comprises a dielectric housing (2), a number of contacts (4) in the housing, and a shield (3) enclosing the housing. Each contact comprises a contacting portion (40) for electrically contacting a corresponding terminal of a mating connector, an engaging portion (41) for securely latching within a corresponding channel, and a joining portion (42) for electrically connecting with a circuit board. The engaging portion of each contact defines a hollow area (410) symmetrical about a center line for providing the engaging portion with appropriate resilience and for allowing the engaging portion to inwardly deform. A bent portion (43) is further formed between the engaging portion and the joining portion of each contact, and has a smaller width than other portions of the contact for facilitating a bending operation by a tool and for preventing deflection of the joining portion.

  • Patent number: 6250969
Abstract: An electrical connector comprises a dielectric housing and a number of contacts received in the housing. The housing defines three aligned apertures and a partition is provided between two proximate aperture. The housing defines four recesses equiangularly disposed in a periphery of each aperture and two selected recesses thereof are respectively recessed in two partitions beside the aperture. Therefor each contact is received in a corresponding aperture and abuts against parts of the periphery of the aperture that are not recessed therein while being spaced from the partition. Thus, stress exerted on the partitions is limited thereby preventing the partitions from being crushed by the contacts.

  • Patent number: 6236010
Abstract: A penetrating contact design that decreases the time needed to move the male and female contacts of a circuit interrupter from a closed circuit position to an open circuit position. The penetrating contact has a grip-enhancing member that can be located on either the male or female contact. The grip-enhancing member of the penetrating contact maintains physical contact between a male contact and a female contact, while the penetrating contact is in the closed circuit condition. The grip-enhancing member creates a relatively high resistance to separation of the male and female contacts. This separation resistance enhances the separation acceleration of the male and female when they are separated by the circuit interrupter. When an operator initiates a disconnect procedure, this separation resistance will maintain the male contact and female contact in the closed circuit position for a longer time as the interrupter's separation mechanism is energized.
